What is the difference between Vertical banded gastroplasty and the sleeve?

My insurance (Tricare) will pay for vertical banded gastroplastry but not the sleeve.  Is that the dreaded band? Also, it will pay for stomach stapling.  Isn't that what the sleeve is?

The sleeve is not the same as stomach stapling, that's long gone. They actually take out 80% + of your stomach to create a small sleeve shaped stomach with a very small capacity for food. The other sounds like the dreaded band. Do they cover gastric bypass?

They do cover RNY but I don't want it. I want the sleeve.

Mine would pay for band or RNY.  No sleeve, no DS.  Knowing what I know now, I would have gone with DS, then I wanted a sleeve.  But, I got a RNY and have been very, very happy.  With deductibles and copays, it was still close to $4000 so I guess I could have gone to Mexico but oh well.  I love my RNy.

do you have to take NSAIDS or any medication for another issue that contraindicated a bypass?

if so they ignitable to cover the sleeve. Yes, the gastroplasty is the dreaded band.

Really?  Well, I take a few each month for cramps. But, that's about it.
