Picking a goal weight
How did you determine what your goal weight was going to be? My surgeon hasn't said anything to me about it yet. My 2 week post op appointment is tomorrow though. Anyways I was just curious. I am not only a lightweight but also a shortie lol. So my range on most BMI scales are 99-132 pounds. Right now I have my ticker at 120 but am wondering if I should bump it up some. I haven't been at 120 in about 9 years or so. Before having kids and struggling with my weight I always bounced between 120-140(hmm guess that isn't too good either lol) so I am comfortable with those numbers. Anyways did you pick it or did your doctor help you?

Congrats on you upcoming surgery!!
I am also a shorty at 4' 11". I set my first goal at 125 but dropped to 106 within 1.5 years. I felt that was way to low for me so I stupidly started Maintenance. For last 4 years I have been maintaining 118-120.

I arbitrarily picked 130 because it's the smack dab middle of the "healthy weight" range for my height, but I'm not putting too much stock in it. I would be thrilled to eventually maintain at 150, and I probably wouldn't look unhealthy at 120 either. I'm just planning to go with the flow and do all I can to resolve my comorbidities with the number on the scale as my secondary focus.
Why do you think you need a goal number? My numbers were crazy off. finally, I just said I was going to let my body tell me when I was done. I got much lower than I could have ever dreamed of. I started hoping for 140 because I had been there and been happy. I ended up at 111. That was too low but I didn't stay there long. Now I am 133 and would like to be in the 120s, But, I am under fat according to the quarterly body scan I do at the gym so that is good for me.
If you have to have a number, go with normal BMI.

I went through this dilemma also, I remember when I was at my lowest in my adult life, and it was a truly crazy time for other crazy reasons, but I was 150 lbs, and I loved it. I felt slender-ish and sexy and beautiful. I thought about using that as my goal, but then I figured its really only a dream number, why not dream big, so I chose 135, which is on the low side of my normal BMI. I figured it'll give me some bounce back room also if needed. But my real plan is as others stated just to let my body decide, stick to the plan, eat like i'm supposed to, and see where I end up.
I think itll be like opening a Christmas gift every mth!
