Alcohol?

Hey everyone, I have a question, was everyone told no alcohol by their bariatric team?  I wasn't told that not that I'm a big drinker but I do enjoy one every now and again.  Just curious?

We were told not to get carried away during the first year post-op...hard on your liver during the massive weight loss phase.

I think my paperwork states no-alcohol for at least the first 6 months. Even then I would be cautious then too because of the surgars and fear of dumping. I am not a beer drinker so that is not what I would want anyway. Maybe a mixed drin**** Now at least their are the sugar free mixes out their and we just have to go light on the alcohol. Friend says that vodka would be the purest best bet???? I don't know.

I have never been told no alcohol but what has been drilled into my mind are the stories that I've heard about how easily a food addiction became an alcohol addiction. Not saying that you by any means are a big drinker, just that it's easier to trade one addiction for another. You will feel the affects of alcohol faster after surgery than before. Also heavier people can tolerate more alcohol before feeling drunk. So just use common sense I say. Chris

I am an amateur mead and wine maker but haven't had any alcohol since July of last year in preparation for surgery. My NUT said it was okay to drink after WLS. I personally am not during my weight loss phase. But calories so high, transfer addiction high and nutritional value low it is not likely that I will partake anytime in the near future. Not saying never, but close.

Do a search on OH on alcohol.   You will find a various opinion.

I found this article helpful.

The article says one drink equals 4. That is what I found out. A month ago I drank 5 beers and could not stand up. Be careful....go slow.

Yep, that was what we were told.  I am 4+ years out and now have a glass of wine or drink but I am a pretty cheap drunk and am very careful.

Did not the sugars in the alcohol cause dumping?
