I went out to lunch with my 4 yr old.  I had chicken breast sand, and only ate some of the chicken.  But my son had a coke and it had a plastic lid w/ straw.  Anyways they over filled it and the top of the lid had some coke on it.  I know no soda for me, but he would have made a mess, so I sipped it off.  Oh my go**** tasted terrible!  And I used to love Coke!  I just had to laugh at how accurate everyones statements about your tastes changing was.

Great how that changed!!! I have not had anything but diet coke since Sept 25 2008. Thank God that is one thing I did not go back to doing is drinking regular pop.  I still don't drink a lot of even diet pop and I know after surgery it will be no carbonation. That will not bother me.

I used to drink 2 liters of diet coke a day.Sometimes more! I was very nervous about giving it up but I knew I had to. I haven't had even a tiny sip since my surgery. I have dreamt about it though. lol   I'm so much healthier now:)  You can do it

glad it tasted awful, but I usually use a napkin to mop that up,and I KNOW you had a handful of napkins, with a kid in tow!

On the napkins, its true I should have thought of it, It was just a decent lunch restaurant w/ linen napkins (we went in at 130 so it was deserted) and it just didn't occur to me, hadn't unwrapped the silver yet.  But it is a good thought for in the future.  I really need to relearn those old habits.

On the nemesis, my true one is dark chocolate and I haven't had a pinch yet, I'm so afraid I won't be able to stop... hard in my house too because there is definetly some around...

I also had RNY and I was scared to death I'd dump on sugar - so I stayed away from it.  And yes, I was a dumper.  That is NO fun but it also kept me on track.  I also dumped on fat.

I do drink diet coke (Coke Zero being my choice) every now and then but definitely not on a daily basis.  I rarely buy it too - just when I go out and it's rare.  I know when I first had sips of carbonation it HURT going down and sitting in my teeny pouch.  Now I don't have issues with it unless I gulp it and some air - then OUCH!

To this day (6.5 years out) you won't catch me even thinking about drinking a full sugar pop.  I also have reactive hypoglycemia so that also keeps me in check.

I was never really a soda fan but am proud to say, 4+ years out and no soda.  And I don't miss it at all.  My weakness when traveling and I am sick of water is Sobe 0.

Before surgery, I drank one can of diet Coke a day so it wasn't a big deal to give it up.  Since surgery, I've tried it but it just doesn't taste good and not refreshing like it used to be.  It burns my throat.  At times I see a bottle of Coke and think I want it, but one sip and I'm done.
