I did all of my labs last week. Today, a receptionist called me from the psych doctor to schedule an eval. She said I need to plan for about 4 hours. I asked again to make sure I heard correctly. Yep- 4 hours. My doc made it seem like a simple talk. What will I be doing for 4 hours? I wasn't even worried about this one but now I am.

I met with my therapist for an hour, then with my NUT for an hour and then with both together for 4 hours.  The 4 hours I had was a nutritional and exercise class (my therapist is also a personal trainer that specializes is overweight patients that have had bariatric surgery).  I like my therapist and I have even went back for a session about 3 months after my surgery, but I can't imagine having a 1 on 1 with just my therapist for 4 hours, so I'm not sure what you will be doing for 4 hours.  I wouldn't be worried about it though.  Maybe they just block that amount of time, but you won't take it all.  Or maybe you will if you have a lot to talk about. :)  They want to make sure your head is ready for surgery.  Good luck!

We had to do a take home test, turn it in then meet with the psych for about an hour to discuss our answers.  Trying to determine if we were binge eaters, stress eaters, etc.  It was a simple process and not something to worry about.  but we also had tons of classes we HAD to take.  Maybe this is a combination of testing and teaching.

I see folks on here from time to time that I wonder how they passed.  We all got here for a reason, we were doing SOMETHING wrong.  Surgery fixes our tummies, but not our heads.  That's ok but if you need help, get it before surgery and after if you need it.  OA is a great place to start.  My Dr group offered free support from the psych for as long as you keep coming for your annual appointments.

I think mine was 2 1/2 -3 hours.  You have a form to fill out that can take quite awhile then you talk.  And they take notes.  I was sooo nervous she would think I couldn't handle it.  I wasn't sure what they were looking for so I tried to keep my answers as neutral as possible...

Good luck!

I'd call back for more details -  we should understand the process.  I had to fill out a 15+ page questionnaire but they sent that to me before hand - I even had to have a  5 page form filled out by a 'support person.'  My discussion was about an hour.
