New to the LW board

Hi,

It was suggested that I check out this board as well - not sure I qualify as a lightweight, but wanted to introduce myself nonetheless.  I'm in the pre-op diet phase currently.  I'm waiting on a surgery date, but due to my own travel plans it appears I'll be looking at the first week in April to get the sleeve.

I really started my journey in October with my surgeon's office.  I worked directly with their dietitian from October - January and was successful losing weight with a 1200 calorie diet. After I got approval from the insurance company, I started all my pre-op work (classes, pre-op testing, etc.).  Typically my surgeon's office prefers folks to be on a 4 week liquid diet with Optifast prior to surgery, but given my success with his dietitian, he approved for me to continue on a calorie-restricted, carb-restricted diet.  Currently I'm managing to 1,000 calories, as per their direction, and continued low carb eating.   I should lock in a surgery date this week.

I have been on the VSG board daily since September, but hadn't visited this board until today.  I look forward to being a part of this community as well and hope to share my many successes.

Welcome.     You are a lightweight if you want to be.  None of felt particularly "lightweight" when we started the process but we had around 100 lbs to lose and our issues are a little different than our heavier friends.  We have folks with all surgery types!!!

My Dr had everyone on a Optifast diet for 4 weeks.  It wasn't bad, just boring.  As long as you are doing fine, I think as he does, if it isn't broke, doesn't need to be fixed.

Looking forward to your progression with your journey.

Thank you so much!!  I didn't mind the taste of the Optifast but agree that eating/drinking the same thing for 4 weeks would make for a boring food plan.  I was thankful they agreed to keep me on normal foods and a protein drink daily just so I can change it up now and again!
