Protien Powder

Hi Everyone,

I am 9 days out from VSG. Having a really hard time getting in liquids and protein. I realized I should only drink protien until I reach my protein goals, which has made it easier. But I really dislike all of them and have no desire to eat or drink (what a blessing, I shouldn't complain).

So right now, I have chocolate, chicken broth, and unflavored UNJURY protien powder. I have made "fudgesicles" with the choc protien powder, I mix the unflavored with crystal light, and drink the chicken broth.

I am really getting sick of these three options. What do you guys do with your protein powders? Also, I see a ton o recipes for making pancakes and stuff, but Unjury cant get hotter than 140 degrees.

Do you have concoctions you like? Do you have a protein powder that can get hotter than 140?

Thanks!!!

It's just hard to get your protein in to begin with.  Sounds like you are doing great.  The unflavored will be you friend because you can add it to cream soups, oatmeal, Greek yogart etc. as they are approved on your diet.  I remember being so ready for each new phase and thinking I was going to be stuck forever but in the grand scheme of things, it is only a short time before you will be eating again.

All protein will curdle if you get it too hot.  I mix protein (vanilla and mint cookie) in warm water and use it to "cream" my decaf every morning.  I also mix Lemon Tea protein with a tube of crystal lite, warm or cold.  I did warm early out much better than cold so no shakes for me in the beginning.

All protein that I know of will curdle at high heat.  You just have to be careful when using it hot.  I never worry when making pancakes, etc about how hot, it is with liquid that it curdles.

I used protein powder mixed with warm water to cream my decaf each morning.  I also mix the lemon tea protein with warm water and a tube of crystal light to make hot tea or drink it cold.  Early out, I did a lot better with warm than cold.

I remember being so ready for each new diet phase and to try new foods.  But in the grand scheme of things, this part last a very short time and you will be eating all kinds of things soon.

Unflavored can go in greek yogurt, cream soups, oatmeal, all kinds of things when those are added to your diet.

Sounds like you are doing great.  Hang in there and keep on keeping on.

Early out I did a lot of unflavored Unjury mixed with crystal light.  The texture was a little thick but the taste was pretty good.

Also, if you are going to mix protein with food, like Price said, you have to premix it.  When I add it to my coffee I take my protein and mix in another cup with a little unsweetened almond milk or full cream (you may not be able to use full cream if you are sensitive to fat).  I then add to my coffee.  When I first started adding protein to my coffee I'd let it cool to 140 then add it directly.  Nothing is worse than curdled protein - yuk!

I also mixed flavored proteins like the Syntax Fuzzy Navel or Pink Grapefruit in unflavored 0% fat green yogurt (like Fage).  It made the yogurt nice and smooth.  Those also are my favorites to mix with water and drink - but early out those flavors were just too  much for me to handle.  I usually stuck to chocolates, vanillas and unflavored.

I recommend buying samples before buying a big tub.  I've wasted SO much money over the years on protein powders I didn't like.  Also, check the carbs when buying.  Even if the package says "only 2g sugar" the carbs can still be high.  That's why I LOVE the Syntrax brand.  I also find that brand mixes very smoothly.

I have found the Unsweetened Almond or Coconut milk (comes in Vanilla too) to work well.

I agree with the others.  We are all so different when it comes to taste.  I may thing a protein powder is delicious but you may not.  I love Click, an expresso powder I get from Amazon.  Their prices are the best and I have it on auto delivery.  The only thing is it has caffeine although they have a caffeine free one.  It also has, I believe, 12 carbs for 2 scoops.  I still use it daily.  I actually look forward to my Click shake.  I make it with almond milk.  You can also drink it hot.

Syntrax has a sample pack of protein powder and that's a good way to try different flavors.  I just got a package from Netrition.com.  They have a $4.95 S&H handling which is good.

I tried Lemon Tea yesterday and liked it.  I added it to ice water and added a packet of Crystal Lite.

Sounds like you are on the right track.  Good luck to you!!

You are SO right when it comes to individual tastes.  I like Click but I feel like it makes my hair grow!  LOL.  I haven't tried the caffeine free.  I also found it doesn't "curdle" like other proteins.  Not sure what is the dominate protein in it.

Now Lemon Tea - I've tried that and "yuk".  I don't like sweet tea and I thought it tasted like that.

I love the Fuzzy Navel and know others that don't (I think it tastes like orange juice).  I also love the Pink Grapefruit.  I haven't tried any of the others.  There is a new one I saw when in Vitamin Shoppe... it sounded good but again, not wanting to buy an entire tub to try, I have't yet.

Sample packets are the way to go!
