Almost gave up
Yesterday was tough. It was day 2 of my pre op diet and I had a migraine all day. I could not function. I took four showers and a few naps.(meds) Nothing helped. I cried and cried and almost quit. My step mom who had the surgery years ago told me to try some cream of chicken. I was iffy at first but tried it and felt tons better. I feel like I cheated my pre op though. I am trying not to let it get me down though. I know everyone has different pre op instructions too. My surgeon asks that you only consume Bariatric Advantage and broth. But this is only maybe 500 calories. But the paper recommends 700 to 900. So I dunno. I guess maybe the cream of chicken won't hurt?
I just know it was the worse day yesterday. Thankfully today has been MUCH better and I am so glad I didn't give up. The 25th cannot get here soon enough!

you are having classic detox from sugar/carbs symptoms. That is why you felt so awful. Detoxing from carbs is like having the flu.
I am sure you felt better aft cream of soup because it is full of carbs,so you haven't really helped your self in the detox . As long as you keep eating carbs you won't complete the detox. It. Is a cold turkey thing. The. More you have carbs the more you will feel awful when you try to get back on. Program.
I suggest you use the recommended shakes and drink as much broth in between as you can hold. I would drink 5-6 cups of broth, one right behind the other one,all day long,if that is what it took.
The forst 3-4 days of any detox are usually the worst. Hang in there, you can do this. Many of us have done it and lived to tell about it. You will too!
Thank you. I didn't think about that. I get extremely bad migraines anyways so I figured it was part of that and the drop in calories. I was not a full functioning person yesterday and that is difficult with two younger children . I like the suggestion about the broth so I will try that for sure.

It is rough but so worth it. You can't give up. I did 2 weeks of protein shakes, a sugar free popsicle once in awhile. Then, I didn't know how to make tasty shakes so the shakes weren't very good. I just kept thinking of all the good things I would have after surgery.

I thought I would die the day before surgery with only liquids. Our pre-op diet was 4 weeks of Optifast, 5 shakes a day with one small food meal (meat and veg) It was suppose to be around 1200 cal.
It is hard when you see others that have different pre-ops. Your dr has a reason for what he does but if he says 700-900, I would go with that. Don't worry about the extra sodium in the broth, it actually is a good thing before surgery because they want you plumped up with extra fluid going in.
What are the Bariatric advantage? They make a lot of different stuff and it seems like lots of is has carbs. There are carb less shakes, the syntrax naturals have 0 carbs. They are 100 calories so you could have 7-9 a day. And they have 23g of protein so that would be good. But they are not meal replacers, they are protein suppliments. Maybe the Bariatric stuff is meal replacers. Hummmm

They are meal replacement shakes. They are 150 calories and 27g of protein only 7 carbs.I can only mix with water too. I think now the hard part is wanting something warm especially since we are iced in at the moment. Today has been much better though.

I make my protein into hot chocolate and even the lemon tea I drink hot. You just need to be careful to not get it too hot because the protein will curdle. The other idea is herbal tea. I love one called honey vanilla chamomile. Yummm. I did a lot of that when I was early out. And of course, your broth can be hot.
I just bought some coconut/almond milk. It is really low calorie, low carb. I know it isn't recommended but 35 calories and 1 carb won't kill you. It would help if you want to make hot chocolate.
