Cross post/Official surgery date
YAY! My surgery date is officially confirmed! I am so excited and nervous! I talked to my doctor's office today just to make sure everything was on track since I hadn't heard from them and they confirmed the date, Feb 25th! I start my pre-op diet this weekend, on Valentine's day, but I am so excited that I don't even care!
I have to say I am nervous though. About the pre-op diet and surgery. Pre-op only because I am worried about getting migraines and trying to function with two kids and my own schooling. I guess the same can be said for surgery too.
Anyways- does anyone have any before surgery tips to make things easier and/or any after surgery tips. Not necessarily food tips only.. Life tips? :)

Decaf and Decarb before surgery. Stop drinking with meals. Walk and get strong. Get a full set of labs done before so you can start trying to get everything where it needs to be before surgery.
Other stuff: I slept for several days after surgery in the recliner then when I moved to the bed, it took lots of pillows to make me comfortable.
Hot or warm liquids were a lot better than cold.
Buy baby spoons and learn to use them to take pencil eraser size bites.
Whew, I will think of more but Congrats on a firm date. You are on your way!!!

Thank you! I will go on Thursday next week to get all my info and labs done. I have to admit I am nervous about decaf and decarb! I know my pre op diet will be for 10 days of nothing but Bariatric Advantage and broth so I am hoping that helps some too. Did you have a drainage tube or anything? I know some people have to have it and I am nervous about that too!
I will make note of the liquids and the spoons. That's a great idea!

I did have a drain tube. Ask your dr. some do, some don't. I had 4 open abdominal surgeries before this so the Lap surgery was a breeze in comparison. Still, it is major surgery and you will feel like you got run over by a semi for a few days.

Everything Price said! :) Try and sip water or crystal light as soon as you can and as often as you can. For me the worst part was the nausea. I stopped taking my pain medicine after being home just a couple of days because the nausea was to much to bear... the pain was much more tolerable.
Try not to get frustrated. It took me until about week 6 to get into my groove... in the beginning I wasn't getting all my protein or fluid in... I just didn't want anything. For me, I had to REALLY cut out my carbs... I get less than 40 a day and that includes the 10 I get from my calcium chews. But, getting in my fluid, getting in my protein and drastically cutting my carbs I am seeing the results on the scale. :) After 2 or 3 weeks of doing this it isn't as hard to say no now... every once in a while I'm tempted, but I'm extremely motivated. A lot of times sweets just don't even sound good to me (I NEVER thought I would be one to say that). Other carbs like potatoes and bread I still struggle with. I haven't ate ANY, but it always sounds good. LOL Fresh fruit sounds really good too, but I won't eat fruit either because of the carbs. I figure fresh fruit will be a good carb when I get into maintenance. :)
Good luck on your pre-op diet and in surgery! :)
I am worried about getting all the protein and fluids in too. I am supposed to get 70-80 grams a day. I think the sipping will be hard too. I find that I am usually not that thirsty, but I know I will have to have fluids to not become dehydrated.
I am the same about the carbs.. I have noticed just here recently how much I consume carb wise. I know they are our bodies source of fuel, but I know I have an abundance hanging around waiting to be used so I am going to just keep telling myself that! I LOVE fruit too!

Have stopped losing pounds but am losing inches!
I just saw my NUT last week and she told me I may be getting to little carbs. She said if I am losing, then keep what I am doing, but if I find I am stalling, then I may need to add some more healthy carbs like fruit. This made me happy!! :) I added some carbs in my diet this past weekend (not a lot) and I am down 2 lbs from Saturday morning to this morning! :) If I start to stall again, I will cut the extra carbs for a while and go back and forth.
