Surgery Question
The surgeon told me just continue eating healthy when I asked him about a pre-op diet since I fell into the LW category, and fast from Midnight the eve prior.
I'm just wondering what happens to whatever is left in your "stomach" once it's cut away from your intestines... I know the other sites say they are on a pre op diet, but this really weirds me out...
Any knowledge on the subject?
Good question. I didn't have to do a pre-op diet except for the 12 hours of fasting and bowel prep before the actual surgery. You might want to call just to be sure you and the doc were talking about the same thing.

We had a 4 week pre-op Optifast diet then 24 hr of clear liquid the day before surgery, nothing past 9pm the night before. I can be sure I was pretty empty. I didn't have a bowel prep but there was nothing there for sure.
Just from midnight seems strange. I would check too. LW's sometimes don't have to do the weeks of dieting to reduce the liver size but my Dr made everyone, no matter what size or surgery, we all did the same thing.

Well, I've heard the contents of the stomach empties in about 30 minutes, so I don't think there should be anything in there at all. Not all Dr.s do a pre-op diet, it's whatever the surgeon has decided works best for them and their patients in their experience. I wish I didn't have one, mine was a pain in the a$$ haha.
