Do I weigh enough for surgery?

I would guess self pay also. My surgeon does the surgery as long as your Bmi is 31+ at the time of surgery.  There are people that have surgery at your weight after they have already had the lap band. I actually gained about 7 pounds for the surgery to get closer to the 35 bmi. It sure wasn't hard to do. I did get the response that your not big enough, blah blah from others. So I kept it a secret until afterwards, still a secret from many.  I have lost and gained the same 50 pounds so many times that my goal is to be able to keep the weight off this time.  So many times that nobody has said anything about the 40 I've lost since surgery.

The weight was getting harder to lose as I got older and the joint pain was making exercise harder to do. I saw myself facing a battle I wasn't going to be able to fight much longer. So I decided to tackle the issue before it got any worse.

Best Wishes

I am 5' 3" and weigh 206. I also have high blood pressure and am on two different BP meds. At my current weight, the Dr. said I do qualify with my comorbidity. I did feel odd the first time I walked into the office because I am definitely one of the smaller people in the room, but I am getting over it. And the way my doctor put it was that I was getting help now before I reached a much higher BMI. I am becoming more content with my decision but know that I will still have to contend with those who will certainly say that I do not "need" to have the surgery, in their opinion.

I am new to OH but have been reading posts since before my surgery. I weighed 187 and I am 5 ft 1 inch when I had my surgery on May 5 ,2014. I was on five different blood pressure medications, gave myself a shot of Victosa every morning for diabetes. I had kidney problems from all the BP medications.  I also took medication for high cholesterol. I left the hospital off my diabetic medications. I am down to two BP medications and take nothing for cholesterol. My kidneys have improved so much I no longer have to go to the kidney doctor. I was 60 when I had surgery and it was my 60th birthday present for myself ! Best decision I ever made. Go for it.

I had a BMI of 34 and opted for self-pay in Mexico for less than my high deductible.  It was the best decision I have ever made.   I can't believe the difference in my health and energy.  It is amazing to wake up and not be in pain.

My husband supported me (because he knows that I will do what I want anyway!) but the rest of my family was very against the surgery. People who have not struggled with their weight don't understand.

I encourage you to explore your options.  It is so worth it.

Good Luck.

I'm 27, 5'10" and 233lbs  (bmi about 32) and I'm getting Sleeved. Even at the seminars the women who are bigger than me have their Comments. I'm not big enough, blah blah.

it's your body and if you feel like it will be a good tool for your life, and you can aford self pay, go for it! There will always be negative comments. I would rather have negative comments about my method of weight LOSS than Comments about my weight gain.
