Question :)

Hi all. I haven't had surgery yet. I am still waiting for my date but hopefully at my appointment tomorrow I will get one. :) Anyways I have question. I am a chronic migraine sufferer and I am a little nervous about how not being able to really eat pre and post op and how it will affect me. If I go to long without eating I can get severe migraines. Did anyone have any severe issues with headaches or migraines in the pre op stage and the very beginning post op? I had been previously receiving botox injections for my migraines, but it is not something I plan on doing for the rest of my life. I was told my migraines may lessen after losing the weight, too. Anyways I just want to know how bad it was before and right after surgery. 

Welcome to the LWs   I didn't have headaches so I can't say what could happen but I would just be sure your Dr knows your history.  Hopefully your Dr will know what to do.  At least you will be on good drugs right after surgery so maybe that will lesson your headaches along with any other pain.

Thank you for your reply :) As of right now my tentative surgery date is Feb 25th. That is what I was told this morning. This cold change depending on what the OR for sure has open and also with my insurance. They like to schedule the appointment for surgery first just because it is easier that way. My doctor just told me to make sure I have my migraine meds handy in case I need them and that most of his patients report that their migraines lessen. So hopefully I am one of those! I am getting excited now that I have an estimated time for surgery! 

HI, I'm not a migraine person either but I will get headeaches if I go without eating for a while. What I found that helped me was protein drinks and shakes. I'm sure your Dr. will tell you about them but they have saved me from plenty of hunger headaches and sugar dips. Good luck.

Share your concern with your doctor. Maybe he will add something?

I mentioned it to him, but all he said was to make sure I had migraine medicine on hand and that the surgery could lessen my frequency of migraines as well. I think he also mentioned to make sure I am getting enough protein.
