no restriction : (

I had revision surgery on 12/26/14, I had my band removed (8yrs) to RNY… I am 11 days out and feel absolutely no restriction. I can eat and drink without any problems. I never feel sick or close to vomiting. I have stayed on track for the most part but finding it hard not to try and push the limit. Has anyone else had this problem? Will restriction kick in once I start eating "real" food?
I never had any problems but I also stuck totally to my program. At 11 days, it was eating 8x a day, liquids (protein drinks), a couple of ounces at a time. Then we progressed to soft, 1/4c of protein, like cream soup, yogurt, pureed cottage cheese. I could eat all of it and didn't feel sick or full. I never vomited the whole recovery. I was also not hungry and could have just as soon gone without as eating. That didn't last long enough, lol!!! anyway, your new tummy has a volume, not a scale. Measure you food and don't go over. Nerves were cut and some of us don't get full signals until it is too late. Measure and stay on your program. You will be fine.

Thanks....I'm having a hard time getting all my protein in..not because I'm not hungry because I don't like cottage cheese can barely tolerate Greek yogurt and literally force down the protein drinks...I'm running out of options..I'm almost ready to advance to the next stage of food..I hope it goes better...and I hope I feel some restriction...
I'm only 6 days post surgery, so I can't really help with the initial part of your post, I won't be off my liquids for a bit yet tho i'm not having any issues at all with them, no nausea, vomiting or discomfort. However your mention of forcing down the protein shakes grabbed my attention. Syntrax makes some of the best Protein powder i've ever tasted! Not chalky or gritty and really smooth and tasty. Dissolves easily in water so I just use a funnel to add it to a water bottle and give it a good shake. They have two types of powder both with great flavors. Matrix and Nectar one is whey protein and the Nectar is the Protein Isolate (lower cal) but both are well within our nutritional guidelines. The company is aware that their product is good for bariatric patients so they also make a product called Nectar Medical which is a protein powder with NO flavor. This is one you can add to your soft foods and it will take on the flavor of whatever you mix it with and give you a huge protein boost! Just wanted to share a product that tastes good to help with your protein needs. You can order them online or check the internet for stores near you that may carry them. The Vitamin Shoppe carries them where I live (except the nectar medical which I had to order online) Good luck!

I love the Lemon Tea and the Matrix Mint Cookie.....YUM!!! You get samples of 15 Syntrax Flavors on their website (http://www.si03.com/reg_index.htm) I think it's the best tasting Protein on the market!

I had trouble with my Protein early out too. Most of us have trouble with our taste buds early out. Everything tastes super sweet, sour, salty etc. That goes away after awhile and our taste buds get back to normal. I bought Unflavored Protein from GNC (AnyWay) and put it in everything I ate. SF Jello/Puddings, Crystal Lite, Soups, Hot Chocolate, Blended meats, etc.
I HATE Plain Greek Yogurt or regular yogurt. Try the flavored Greek Yogurt. I love the Dannons Lit n Lively Cherry. Or you can put Sweetner plus other SF toppings in FAGE Greek Yogurt.

Syntrax nectars were one of the few proteins that my Dr recommended from the beginning. We were not allowed Matrix until later but that is what I mainly use now.
Unjury Chicken soup was a great one for me early out because it wasn't sweet and I was so sick of sweet.
Can you have cream soups? I added unflavored protein to those for a great change too. The brocalli cream soup wasn't great but the others were wonderful for a change. A little further out we could have V8 and I added unflavored protein to that for something different.
Pretty soon you will be able to have refried beans and cheese. That will make things easier too.
I did best with warm not cold in the beginning and really for quite a while. I was having lots of body temperature issues and was cold, then hot, etc. Pretty typical right after surgery. Anyway, cold drinks just made me colder and didn't sit very well in my new pouch.
I think one of my best "foods" was a batch of homemade chicken veggie soup that my sister made and pureed for me. Yummmmmm. I think I ate that everyday for weeks.
I remember being very ready for each new phase but really each phase is so short in the grand scheme of things and at the other end, you are so much healthier. It really is worth whatever it takes at this point to make it through all this.
You can do this.

Congrats on your RNY!!!! Your restriction might not hit for awhile. We all seem to have a full sign and you will learn to stop before you feel the restriction. Mine is the hiccups. At 6+ years out I still get them. Early out I thought they were so annoying but now I am so thankful I hiccup and realize that my tool is still working. Other's get things like runny eyes or a runny nose.
I would not want to push the limit! I've dump, got stuck, sick, etc. It is not fun!
