lightweight wls?
At 5'2" and 176 pounds, I thought of myself as pleasantly plump, but not big enough for surgery. When my doctor talked to me about gastric bypass, I was dumbstruck. I never contacted insurance, I just assumed that they would never pay for it. I also thought it was ridiculous for someone my size to have the surgery.
My doctor told me that RNY was the best treatment for my diabetes and thought it would be worth it for me to be self-pay. Instead I started taking Lantus insulin. With Lantus I gained 20 pounds quickly and another 10 as time went on. I was 207 when I had my first consult nine years later. I was 195 on surgery day and the smallest person that my surgeon had operated on. The other people in my classes asked if I was post-op and shook their heads when I said that I was new.
My weight loss was quick and easy. I love being slim and healthy and have never missed those needles or insulin. It took time for my body to regulate but now I have a normal BMI. I have a very small appetite (actually I am never hungry). I am full of energy, wear size 4 pants and have no trouble maintaining my goal weight.
Like most people, I only regret not doing this years sooner.
Real life begins where your comfort zone ends
Thank you so much for your post. You know how I feel. The Dr said after my liquid diet I will be the smallest also. I was shocked when the surgeon who was going to do my hernia surgery, said he thought this would save my life. I went that day to the bariatric clinic because the cheif surgeon called them to get me in. Everything went really fast but I am ready now. We are in the DC area and my hubby is active military, so they were rushing because we were about to PCS. They wanted me to have it here. I am nervous but I am 41 and I am ready to get my life back. I am going to be a grandma around Han 8 th. Because I am having this surgery we are getting to stay here til March so I get longer time with my grandbaby. I feel blessed already. I hope I loose it fairly quick.
This is great as I am in the same boat and have surgery next Monday, December 8th. I had my first consult at 219 and I'm now 204 and will probably be in the 190's by next Monday - I'm on the clear liquids diet and haven't had a problem with it so far.
I'm super scared and excited. I'm so glad I found everyone here!
