Calling all Lurkers!!!
Hiiii All .. my name is Marie and yep .. ima lurker :)
Still trying to figure out the profile stuff .. lol but I am getting there.
I've posted here and there.. I mostly read the different posts and see what seems to work best for different people
What issues some experience so I can try to be better prepared
oodles of great advice, yummy recipes and good tips
My Dr. recommended a sleeve for me due to excessive scar tissue from previous hernia surgeries and intestinal issues I have.. he felt it would be the safest for me.
because of the ginormous hernia and intestinal issues.. the plan was to fast track me to get the wls .. and once I lost some weight
fix the massive sized hernia I have once again .. but time wasn't on my side and I needed to have a surgical procedure that left a pretty big sized hole
in my abdomen (7x3x7 cm).. soo once this heals, I will be slated for the wls. Everything else has been completed and ins has approved the procedure.
I am so glad the Staff at my Dr's office recommended this board .. such awesome inspiring individuals.
Hi! I'm Tracie and I too, am a Lurker. I have been pretty obsessive about reading posts over the last few months. I had Lap-Band in 2007 and together we have failed each other. Now, I'm at a different point in my life and have really put in the effort to lose weight. I also understand the importance of exercise. With that being said, I feel like I'm ready for the revision surgery to help me get to goal. I've decided on RNY, due to PCOS and other factors. I'm an extremely slow loser and I'm praying that the new pouch and hormonal changes will speed up my metabolism. I had a surgery date of Oct 1st, but ran into a financial snag and am having to reschedule. I'm extremely disappointed, but I'm trying to keep positive and know that everything will happen when its meant to be.
Welcome aboard, Tracie.

Welcome Tracie. Good luck on your surgery. Hope you can get it rescheduled soon. You're right it will happen when it is meant to be. I don't think I could have been as diligent when I was younger as I can be now(just me).
It is really good if you wanted to start posting on the Menus and Miles each day and get into the habit of tracking your food even thought you haven't had the surgery. It is a great form of support.
Be sure to let us know how it is going!!

Hi, I'm Mary in Minnesota, 44, 5' CW 262. Guilty of lurking, first post Have attended an informational session and have my consultation next week. Looks like my insurance will cover costs. I have been reading your posts for a few weeks and find them incredibly helpful. Any time I come up with a question one of you has answered it already. I'm trying to figure out sleeve vs. bypass. Sleeve seems appealing to avoid dumping but worried without that "help" I might cheat too easily with sugars and fat (not as if I've had a lot of food self control until now). Not really sure how to figure out which surgery is better for me.
Hi, Mary. Welcome aboard! Listen to the folks here with RNY and how they handle sugars and fat.

Hi Mary. Dumping or not dumping is different with each person. Some have a very low threshold and others can eat more. So you never know. I didn't test the waters much at all until I was about 1 1/2 years out. I might have tried a little every now and then. I have since tested the waters really well-wish I had never tried some things.
There used to be something that I think Gina posted that had the different surgery types with what type eater you are and what would work better for you. Be sure you don't have to take NSAID's if you consider RNY. We can't take those because they can cause ulcers.
My insurance would only pay for RNY or the band. My surgeon recommended RNY due to my diabetes and I have been off of meds since the day of surgery.
Good luck and let us know if we can help you.

Hi! My name is Kristy and I have been lurking on the RNY page for a while. I read a post on there about this board so I wanted to come check it out. I am scheduled for RNY on Sept 29th and am freaked out! I have never had any time of surgery before. I have 5 children so I am nervous about the actual procedure more than the after affects. My HW is 230 and I haven't lost weight in a really long time. I have been this weight since baby #4 and I had quit smoking at the same time. I don't eat alot and I am not a snacker but my surgeon said my metabolism just needs a reset as it is no longer working correctly. I used to exercise on my eliptical for 45 min 4x a week along with pushups and situps and I never lost a pound or a pant size. I gave up after 8 months of nothing. I haven't really talked to anyone other than my parents and my husband/oldest child and a couple friends who have had WLS about my upcoming surgery.
