Hi! Shannon here, Chicago, haven't had surgery yet, but in the beginning stages of the process - have my referral from my PCP, just waiting on my first appt with the surgeon's office.  I've been on this site for the last month and a half, reading everyone's stories, suggestions, wins/losses and getting informed.  Looking forward to being a "loser"!!!

Have you decided on what type of surgery you want to have?  We have all types on here so it is a good well rounded place.  Everyone is friendly here too.

Waiting is the hardest part.  Good luck and keep us updated.

I'd like to have the sleeve, but will see what the doctor says...I've enjoyed reading all the posts, not only are they helpful but everyone is definitely friendly and supportive!    It's great to see and great to have a place where so many people understand and are in the same situation.  I'm an introvert at heart so I'm not comfortable with group sessions, etc - but really love this site.  

I just got an email from the surgeon's office to set up the appointment for consult...one step closer!  Yay!

Welcome Shannon!!!   I hate group things too but LOVE our LW's!!! They are my only support group.  Really take this time to check out the different surgery types and make the best decision for yourself.  A lot depends on what your eating weaknesses are.  I love sugar so the RNY was best for me.  At 6 weeks out it still keeps me in line.

Hi, I have been on this site since 8/16 when I attended my informational seminar. I am obsessed with visiting this site so I am definitely a lurker!  I live in Michigan, I am 37 yo and 5'6" - my highest weight was 324  I have gotten my approval from insurance for the Sleeve, I was required to do a Psych Eval and get a sleep study. I have gotten both of those done and found out I do have sleep apnea. So now I am waiting for my surgeon to sign off on my file so I can get my pre surgery testing done and then I hope to get my surgery date. I am looking to have my surgery done mid November to mid December but we shall see. I am down about 10lbs so far. I am impatiently waiting to get on that losers bench!

Hi and welcome.  Congratulations on your approval.  Your date will be here before you know it.  Use this time to really get your mind and body ready.  The more walking and exercise type things you can do the easier your recovery will be.
