Calling all Lurkers!!!
Welcome!! I'm so glad you came out and introduced yourself!!
It sounds like you have done a wonderful job working your tool!! I'm glad you agree that It is best to go as low as you can before starting any kind maintenance. It's also best not to sneak bites of carbs and other things that you gave up early out.

Hello Roz,
I'm a lurker as well. I read posts everyday. Very interesting to see the variety of everyone's individual experiences. Just started my WLS journey. I went to my consult wanting a VSG, but my surgeon is pessimistic about my long term success because of my BMI of 49. He's recommending RNY. So lots to think about. I found out that I was approved by my insurance, and started my required 3 month supervised diet yesterday. Hoping to have surgery in January. Still trying to decide which, that's been kind of stressful. Trying to make the most of the time I have to make a decision. :-). Hoping to have success like many others here.

I wanted a sleeve but my insurance wouldn't approve it. Back then it was more experimental at least they thought it was. I could do a band or RNY so the decision became easier because of all the issues I had heard with the band. I have been so happy and it has been so easy that I am very glad I had the RNY. RNY is still the gold standard and is right for very many folks. You do have to keep up with your vits/mins but you get into the routine and it isn't hard.
Looking forward to hearing more about your journey!!!

Welcome!!! WLS is a big decision so gather all the information you can so you make a good one. One of the reasons I chose the RNY because I am addicted to sugar and fat. Even at 6 years out I have to watch my sugars or I "dump". It has really kept me on the right path.
Keep us updated!

Hi Roz,
Thank you! :-) Yes it definitely is a big one. I've been reading all of the comments people make regarding their specific food issues/habits pre-op and how that led them to a decision regarding a particular surgery. I've been overweight since I was a child and feel that my eating habits have kind of gone through different seasons. Its almost always been grazing, sometimes binging. Carbs are my biggest problem I would say, but fat and sugar have had their turns as well. So I feel like I've experienced all of these problems at some point. I've been successful at weight loss when I follow weigh****chers for example, which is what I'm using currently for my pre-op diet, but the problem is maintenance of course, and not gaining it back and then some. Thanks for sharing your experience. I'll keep you posted!
Hi, My name is Lisha... and I am a lurker. I have been following this site daily for the last 4 weeks. I am at the end of my pre-op diet, RNY scheduled for sept 16th. I am very nervous and have had a hard time sticking to the preop diet. That makes me fearful of the post op plan. Im afraid of all the changes and all the things that will happen to me. Im trying to say good bye to certian foods and it is harder than I thought it would be. I come here to see the success stories and hope that will be me.
