3 Weeks Post Op and Wondering
Hi All, I am almost 3 weeks post op and wondering what a typical weight loss "schedule" looks like for a lightweight - if there is such a thing. Since day of surgery I have lost 11 lbs for a total of 18 lb including the pre op diet. I understand that everyone loses at their own pace but I want to be sure I'm on track. It's confusing when I hear people talk about losing 20 lb in their first week and such. I am still on mostly liquids and things like pudding, yogurt and egg custard and am getting around 50 to 60 g of protein in at this point. My princess tummy is pretty particular about what it wants and what it doesn't and the temperature of everything I give it!! Talk about a high maintenance tummy!
Congrats on your WLS!!! If you could put your surgery type in your heading or signature that would be really helpful. It sounds to me like you are right on track!
You are right about every one losing at a different pace. I'm guessing the 20 lb. loss in one week wasn't a lightweight. I really can't remember that many years ago but when I get time I will try to find it. I'm sure others who are earlier out or better record keepers than me will respond.
Are you allowed puree foods yet? The higher the protein totals the faster you will loose. I blended a lot of meat early out. It might look gross but it tasted good. Blended roast was delish! I also bought unflavored Protein at the GNC store and put it in my SF pudding, yogurt, soups, SF jello, etc.
My pouch was very picky too and my taste buds were out of whack. Everything tasted extremely sour, salty, and sweet.

Hi Roz,
Thanks for your reply. I've added my surgery type and date on my signature. I am starting pureed this week and plan on doing the blended meat and some mashed fish. I think I'm ready. That should really help with protein levels. At this point it is a bit of a challenge. I'm fine with the process, whatever it is, so it's good to have a little reassurance!
Have a great day!

Most of us gain weight from surgery, fluids, swelling etc so the first week you have to lose that to even get at a starting point. You have lost about 3 lbs a week so you are doing great. Think about it in terms of % of excess weight, not pounds. Our heavier friends may lose 20lbs in the first weeks, that would have been 20% of my excess weight so it isn't going to happen. If you follow your program which is sounds like you are doing a great job on, you will be fine.
Some folks stall around 3 weeks while their bodies are saying "what happened to me". If you do, don't worry, just keep on keeping on. Take your measurements now if you haven't because you may find you are losing inches even when you aren't losing pounds.
I didn't have a problem with any food early out but temperature (room or slightly warm was best) and flavor, everything had too much, were the issues. It all works out but it takes a while. And you have the rest of your life to get used to your new tummy.
