How did you decide which type of surgery as a light weight

Yes it is very very scary and lots of choices. My doctor helped me choose the correct procedure for me since every ones needs and eating patterns are so different. Read my old posts from my profile. I did everything but have a full blown nervous breakdown prior to surgery. Being a lightweight always leaves you with doubts because we are usually not as ill with co morbidities. I have no regrets;). When you are ready you will know. My story was very much like yours.
Welcome aboard! I researched and read Weight Loss Surgery for Dummies. I got it from Amazon. I first saw the write up on the DS there and it was pretty good. I started reading here on OH and then went searching on my insurance's web site for a surgeon in my area that did the DS. I read his web site about the DS and was a little more impressed. Then, I attended his info session and when he described the DS. its success rate, and how it was for grazers, the angels sang to me. lol He called it the bazooka of weight loss surgeries. Since I've always felt like I was at war with my body, the DS was the perfect weapon.

My insurance would only pay for RNY or band and I had heard/read too muchbad about the band. I thought I wanted a sleeve. I never even really considered DS but with my eating patterns, etc, it would have been good for me.
All that being said, I love my RNY. I lost all my weight and have been able to keep it off for 3+ yrs now, with effort, but they all are going to take effort. There is no magic cure.

At almost 9 years post RNY I have regained 40% of my lost weight. (Just relost 5%) so I'm at a regain of 35%.
Two people I work with had the sleeve less the 2 years ago and have both regain at least 75% of their lost weight.
Good luck in whatever you decide. While I can eat small amounts of sweets I know I can't eat too much.
Diabetic get RNY. Chronic need for meds sleeve might be better choice.
I never considered DS. IMO too drastic for lightweights.
Not to scare you because any surgery involves risks but but of these friends had the sleeve in Mexico. One had complications and luckily we work in the OR. Make sure there is someone local that can be available should a complication arise.

Thanks so much - this message board is therapy in itself! You touched upon my greatest fear with surgery - regain! I don't have the support of my friends and family and they all love to talk about regain. They love make comments and give advice but don't know the pain I'm in and their ADVICE sometimes makes more pain. Thanks for your experience .
I had to have NSAIDS...and the sleeve wasn't an option. So I got a DS...best decision I have ever made.
