protein powders/liquids
Has anyone used the Body Fortress protein powders from Walmart, or the others big containers available there? They seem to fall in the guidelines given to me as far as carbs, fat and protein. I have also seen the usual protein bars, but I think they are full of too much carbs and sugar! What about the power shots of protein? the little bottles of liquid - containing 26g pf protein in 3 oz, with no carb, and no fat! They look promising, but apparently taste awful - but if they are only 3 oz I can drink fast!! any advice?
I've used mainly Body Fortress since the beginning. I have found others that taste better but since I go through about 2 canisters a month it is more cost effective to stick with the Body Fortress. I usually doctor it up or have it with my coffee drinks so it doesn't really matter. As far as protein bars go I stick with either Atkins, Quest or Think Thin. They are lower in carbs and the taste if pretty good, especially the Atkins Mudslide bars. Every now and then I find them at Grocery Outlet for about $3 a box so I load up and keep them hand for the times when I am too busy to eat or need to up my protein count for the day. The protein shots are gross as well as not being useful to us so I stay away from them but I heard recently that there is one out there that is made from whey that is good for us. I don't have the info about it but I think I'll stick with the shakes.

I have used Body Fortress from time to time. I am not a big fan but it is useful when you run out of something else. I have a GNC but that is about it around here to get protein so I order most of mine. Mainly Syntrex Matrix or Nectars. They cost a little more but are good quality and taste great.
I use protein bars only for when I need something quick or am traveling, etc. They are way too good and too expensive to have as an everyday treat. I buy the Aldi ones now that are Adkins look alikes. They are cheaper and good but lots of sugar alcohol, etc. In the begining, we were directed to only eat 1/2 protein bar, not the whole thing. "Oh yeah" is my favorite but they are too expensive to use all the time.
The bullets taste horrible. We were directed to use them only as a last possibilty early out to get our protein in if we couldn't tolerate anything else. I seem to remember they are not the right kind of protein or something. Anyway, I tried them at meetings where we had taste testing but they were not something I would ever buy. I never had a problem with anything so getting my protein in shakes was easy. I did get sick of sweet stuff and the Unjury Chicken Soup was a nice change.

I just recently looked at a few Protein tubs at Walmart but I don't remember what brands they were. They were all low Protein and had carbs. They might say they have 20+ protein in them but you have to use 2 scoops to get that total.
I order mine on line. There are numerous sites they sale them and cover postage. I buy the Syntrax, Matrix, and just recently bought some Jay Robb Vanila. I usually order from All-Star Health or Lucky Vitamin.
The one I use the most is Syntrax Lemon Tea which is mild enough you can drink it plain or you can add Crystal Lite, MIO, ect. The Syntrax comes in many flavors and is Whey protein and 1 Scoop is 100 calories, 26g Protein and 0 Carbs. You can buy 12 samples of the Syntrax for $13.99 at: https://www.si03.com/reg_index.htm
The Matrix Mint Cookie is Delish! (made by Syntrax too)

I also like the syntrax nectars and their chocolate. It mixes up very smooth and tastes great. Early out I focused ONLY on Whey protein isolates (that's what my NUT was telling us). I got my protein initially from GNC (expensive), but since then get it online or if I'm in a pinch i go to Vitamin Shoppe. I still look for the 0 carb proteins - and do look at the serving sizes. 1/4 scoop is the serving size of these (really - who uses only a 1/4 scoop!). So be sure to multiply the serving scoop size by the amount you use for your total protein/carbs. I know many folks use the Body Fortress and are happy with it.
As far as bars, they don't sit in my pouch well. Too heavy.. but the ones I like are the Atkins bars. They're like addictive to me, so I can't have them around. But I will need to check out the Aldi brand that Price suggested. I still think bars have too many carbs in them but once in awhile they won't hurt. I wouldn't use them for daily supplementation for your protein. The shots (YUK) were big back in the day when I had my surgery. I tried them and couldn't stomach them. I also believe they are not the right types of protein, so really not doing you much good.
