Menus and Miles Sun. March 23rd
I couldn't use Protein Drinks for a long time and it made me gag too but I just kept buying samples and I never gave up until I found some that I really liked. A lot of us use the Syntrax. I love the Lemon Tea. I drink mine plain but it is mild enough you can add crystal lite or some other flavorings for variety. If you like chocolate the Syntrax Matrix Mint Cookie is delicious. You can get samples of the Syntrax at: https://www.si03.com/reg_index.htm You get 12 samples for $13.99. I use 8 oz. of water, 1 scoop of Protein, and fill my shaker cup up with ice. I also put chocolate Protein in 1 packet of 20 calorie Hot Chocolate Mix. I don't notice any smell in them at all but if you buy a Protein Cup from GNC with a SS ball in it I am pretty sure you won't smell anything. I only use water in my Protein drinks instead of adding the extra calories and carbs (save those calories for another meal). I started making my shakes with Low Fat cottage cheese, water and a scoop of Protein powder. That really thickens them up and adds Protein and I think they are delish! Sometimes I add a little SF cheesecake pudding powder for a different taste. I also add flat SF caffeine free root beer sometimes....yum!
I have been diagnosed with IC (painful bladder syndrome) and wasn't allowed Protein drinks the last couple of months but I am gradually adding them back in. What I wrote below is based on my "NORMAL" menus that I have used for over 5 years. Since I've been sick I've had to add Protein from food. I haven't gained any weight BUT I am tired, my skin doesn't look so good, and my hair is thinning again.
I don't really count calories. I count Protein drinks and then concentrate on Protein meals/snacks. I aim for over 100 Proteins from my drinks and any all of the other Protein I eat is a bonus. I don't count my carbs because I rarely eat more than a couple of bites of "bad" carbs in a day (pasta, potatoes, breads, rice etc.) I don't eat much fruit because of the added sugar. I don't worry about fats.
I think 900 calories are high for 3 meals and you are still hungry. I am a believer in numerous small meals. I am rarely ever hungry. If you can spread your calories over the day by readjusting your recipes to make your shakes and meals lower calories but higher protein you could eat more times a day. I am 5.5 years out and I am under 1100 calories for the day and if I added in my "normal" 4 Protein drinks I would still be under 1300 calories and I feel like I eat all day long. I've ate this way since I felt maintenance started which is about 3 years.
I don't drink coffee but I suggested "Click" protein coffee to friends who are coffee drinkers and the loved it.

I'm gonna have to try Click. They don't sell it at our WLS Center but as luck would have it, tonights support group is a protein tasting so I'm guessing they will have to have other choices then they have in their shop. They only sell Unjury. I've seen lots of folks say they liked it. I just don't want to put a lot of cash out there for protein when my doc is adamant about not using it if you dont have to. We'll see though. He also only wants us to eat 3 meals a day too, with one snack IF necessary. If the scale doesn't budge (God forbid!) before my Apr 17th appointment though, we may have to revisit that rule.
