so, how am I gaining weight?

I do measure with my measuring cups and I have a food scale and I do that religiously. It's just that my pouch is larger than the normal size as I was a revision and had scar tissue.   I talked with my nutriionist yesterday afternoon and she said that I am at the stage that most people are at 6 months.  She said to increase portions to up to 2/3 of a cup.   She also said that I would know when I had eaten too much and strangely enough she was right, last night since I'd gotten the ok to increase portion size I tried to add another sausage patty and another slice of toast to my breakfast for dinner, I use Healthy Life bread so it's very thin and 100% wheat. I had to throw away the extra patty and toast, for the first time I felt like "ok, that's too much".  I know everyone's plan is different but I talked it through with her yesterday and she said she would be fine with me taking in 1200 calories a day.  It would mean a pound a week weight loss she said.  I don't plan to do that but it made me feel better about what I was doing.

Thanks, that background is very helpful.  It certainly puts you in a different situatuation and most of us were in.  Maybe more like eating with a sleeve instead of RNY but you still will have malabsorption and need to be good about your vits and mins.  I wasn't hungry for months and it took me forever to eat more than 1/4-1/2c.

I think you are going to have to stick to low carb.  Don't worry about the fat, at least early out you will malabsorb some of that anyway.

the use of protein suppliments varies greatly from one Dr to another.  My Dr was ok with them but I think that I would use them one way or the other.  Early out I needed them to get in my protein.  Now, 3 yrs out, I need them to keep my protein level up.  I do weight lifting 2x a week, walk several times a week and have added a yoga class.  My meals are all protein based (check out my menus on Miles and Menus) and I still need the suppliments to keep my labs good and my Dr agrees.  That is a decision you will have to make for yourself.  I am a firm believer in following your suggested plan but I also believe that I NEEDED the extra protein and still do.

Thanks Price. When I have my 5 week follow up with my surgeon I am going to ask him exactly what the volume of my pouch is, I just didn't think of it at the time.  He did tell me that he made the intestine shorter to increase the malabsorption to compensate for the bigger pouch... I think I am doing low carb, not sure what constitutes Low but yesterday I had 76 carbs total.  I am up almost another full pound today.  So that's just shy of three pounds in a week.  I had 103 oz plus of water, 2 protein shakes, walked for an hour, had 960 in calories, burned 331 in exercise.  And had 103 grams of protein.  I know some say to throw out the scale but there's no way I can do that.  I have weighed every day since I was banded in 2004 because prior to that, I didn't own a scale and denial was my best friend.  I gained up to 263 pounds by ignoring the numbers and I vowed I would not bury my head ever again.  I know at this point once a week would be better but, this is just my way of keeping my head in the game.  I've been reading the M&M board and I will start posting there today.

When I was in losing phase, I kept my carbs to under 30 net (total - fiber).  I found I could eat the same number of calories with low carbs and lose or with higher carbs and stall.  Everything else looks good so maybe it is the carbs.  For some folks, lowering carbs helps with hunger also.  Carbs seem to make them hungry more often.
