that's great. I looked at all the possible medicare part D specifically for prilosec since that is the only med I take and none covered it, boohoo.

Jody,
I talked with my surgeon last August about this and to see if I needed a prescription because I was buying the over the counter Omperazale(?). He told me to start with the cheapest over the counter one at Walmart and work my way up to one that works for me. I switched to the Famotidine and it has worked fine for me. I think I get about 200 tablets for less than $10. I never had any heartburn issues except when I was pregnant before surgery though so that might make a difference. I didn't really have heartburn just had a gnawing feeling in my pouch sometimes.

Thanks Linda! I've tried the Omeperazal also, and it didn't do anything for me. In fact, the Dr told me Omeprazole and Prevacid counteract each other...
I'll look for the Famotidine... I'd rather get an OTC anyway as my deductible will be higher than the price at Walmart and I can get it whenever I want.

Hi Roz - Lemon Tea? Isn't that on your no-no list you rebel! Sorry I missed yesterday's posting but I loved the St. Patrick's day school fun at your grandchild's school Very cute!
Boring menu today as I have been having as Jody calls it a grouchy pouch day-
B: coffee then protein yogurt = 38g
S: 1 slice of cheddar cheese after workout at the gym - 5g
L: Leftover chicken curry which made me MISERABLE so no more of that for me for a while = 20g
S: Greek yogurt w/ cookies and cream protein - blech = 30g
D: Not sure - maybe another greek yogurt sans protein powder or a shake.
all my vitamins and water good. 90 minutes at the gym - weight training and cardio
haha....since I've been pretty cramp free I'm allowed to have a Protein drink every other day now. She finally admitted that she can have "do not eat" foods occasionally but not every day. The only bad cramps I've been having are during the night. I would never drink a Protein drink before bed because I wouldn't have time to cleanse my bladder of the acid. I've been getting up several times a night to go to the bathroom and drink some and that does seem to help.
Do you know what's causing your grouch pouch? Caffeine? Could it be the sour greek yogurt? Stuff like that would have killed me before WLS.
Sounds Good!
Roz
God is walking with me every step of the way. Because of HIM this is possible!!

I'm not really sure what has brought it on - I am a bit stressed out with sending 2 boys on long international school trips this past week and we just found out that my husband's work is being Audited and through that audit we are as well So I can hardly say this has been a carefree week! But I think my love affair with coffee and super spicy foods may have come to an end. My pouch is so irritated and burning that I think I will go back to very bland, very soft foods tomorrow. No greek yogurts, no curries and maybe tea instead of coffee, though that makes me depressed just thinking about giving up coffee! I am glad you are able to splurge on a protein shake every other day and that you have found the right time to drink it. All good progress!
Ashley, if it doesn't get better I would check with your surgeon. They might give you something to help calm it down. I had to take the Carafate after eating a lot of spicy food for quite a while. Once I got it under control I started taking something everyday and that has helped a lot. You don't want to get an ulcer.
Hope you feel better soon!!
Linda
Thanks Linda -
I saw my Nut on Monday and she gave me a script for a PPI that I took before surgery to cure the ulcers I had which were caused by my LapBand complications. I also took it for the first 3 months post-op. I am prone to ulcers it seems - ugh - I had severe bleeding ulcers as a 24 year old caused by Advil! Anyway - my Nut told me to take the PPi for 2 weeks and if the symptoms don't go away then they will do a scope. So fingers crossed I've caught it in time! PS - what is Carafate? Like a Milk of Magnesia, or a Malox type of thing?
It is a liquid medicine that coats your stomach lining. It is really expensive but works wonderfully. Not something you would want to do all the time, but only if it is really irritated and won't clear up with other medicines. I had been eating a lot of tomato based foods for several weeks and had gotten it to irritated to clear up on its own.
Hope the PPI clears it up for you.
