I posted Thursday night that I was competing at the CA State Games in San Diego today. Well, I had a blast. I won a silver medal for my technical program, and a gold medal for my dramatic spotlight program. The ice parade and torch ceremony was also pretty cool. It was a long day, 3 hours each way of driving in pouring rain, two programs that were skated about an hour apart, the ceremony, and a nice dinner with DH. I am tired, but so happy that I can participate in a sport that I love. The medals are just a nice bonus.

What an awesome NSV! I need to get on my ice skates. I am a beginner, and sometimes fear falling and breaking a bone, but I love to skate. Your post is inspiring me to Just Do It. Congrats.

Well, I say go for it!!! I started with an ISI adult group class. I ended up getting some much better skates, and a 15 minute a week coaching session. While that doesn't sound like a lot, we really do get a lot done. I have my coaching after the group class.

I also wear protective gear while I skate on public sessions. I use waxel crash pads for my hips & tailbone, knee pads, and wrist guards. I only go without them if I am skating a session in the morning that is not crowded and when I compete. Oh, I have been at this a little over a year, and I only skate at the alpha level, very beginner. One of the first things we reviewed when I began the adult class, how to fall properly to help avoid injury.

I had skated as a kid, and a little for fun as an obese adult. But now, I am having a blast. This also sure beats the dreadmill, oh, treadmill LOL. I also do walking, dancing, and strength training as part of my workout routines. Building strength is helping my skating.
