pizza change in perspective
on 1/23/14 7:23 am
Last night my husband and I went out for dinner. I left ten dollars with my daughter and her friend to buy pizza. When I got home the pizza box was on the counter and there was one piece left. I was APPALLED that the two of them ate a pizza minus one piece. I was thinking today how my perspective has changed. A whole pizza would have been nothing to me a year ago. The funny thing was it took me till today to realize how my thinking had changed.

yeah, there are times when I am horrified at how much I have eaten only to then see what others are eating or think about what it would have been a few years ago.

I ate lunch with some co workers yesterday and was amazed at how fast they were eating. It kind of grossed me out!

Oh yes - and it started as soon as a month post-op. I had my surgery a month before Thanksgiving and remember sitting there and watching everyone shovel copious amounts of food into their mouths... I was astounded.. and knew that used to be me.
I'm still like that when I watch other people eat. I think I eat "normal" now - as far as what people expect someone my size to eat. I can eat 2 pieces of pizza... takes me awhile but I can do it. That's my limit though.

I had my first piece of pizza postop a couple weeks ago. It tasted really good but felt like a lead ball in my stomach. I guess that is a good thing1

I am married to a construction worker and have 2 teenage boys, watching them eat makes me feel ill! They shovel in huge bites, fast.
OT a bit, but I make a great pizza on a low carb tortilla shell. Just add toppings and bake. :)

I get so amused watching people at buffets. When I was fat I always felt like people were watching me go up for seconds and maybe even thirds and now I am the "watcher". They funny part is when I look around I am the only one watching because everyone else seems to be eating as fast as they can so they can make another trip. I guess people watching me was all in my head and I was eating "normally" back then and now I am the only one wasting my money at a buffet....LOL.

God is walking with me every step of the way. Because of HIM this is possible!!

I feel bad but I have gotten kind of critical about the way others eat.

Watching other people stuff themselves like it is the last meal of their life times is a good deterrent to eating too much, especially if you focus on their mannerisms and lack of manners. They rush rush rush to shovel it in, don't really enjoy their foods, and especially at a buffet will act crazy and or be rude to get more food---and when they are done they lean back and moan about how uncomfortable they are after eating so much! OINK!
The same technique was used by a smoking cessation program I went through years ago. Our weekly assignments included watching other people smoke, noting the urgency they felt for their smokes, the bizarre things they sometimes did in order to smoke somewhere, how unpleasant they looked with a cigarette dangling from the corner of the mouth, how their clothes and hair reeked of smoke, how other people avoided them, etc. The point was to be able to see ourselves as others see us, not to be judgmental. It was one of the things that helped me quit a 15 year, pack and a half a day habit in just 5 weeks. Never, ever wanted a smoke after that.
