revisioin peeps I need some info
I know this isn't the revision forum but they were mean to me when I asked this question and I really need support not cruelity. I am 8 months post op as you all know and stopped loosing weight at five months. My medical issues are still there and I would qualify for surgery because my insurance doesn't require a specific bmi. I'm not sure if they will cover revision so I may be paying out of pocket. I'll make it work. My question is, any one have revisioni at under two hundred pounds. My frame is small and my ideal weight is around 110. I weigh 178. I still have my health issues and know from experience they don't start going away until I hit around 120. Soooo have any of you done this successfully? I had vsg and am thinking either Ds or bypass. Can anyone tell me your story. Also PLEASE don't tell me I don't need the revision because that is as frustrating and depressing as someone telling a preop patient that THEY don't need the surgery. I did this to get healthy not to stay obese and unhealthy. Thank you for the support and sharing.

It's probably worth discussing with a DS surgeon or 2. Have you seen the list of DS surgeons on dsfacts.com? If insurance here won't cover it Dr Ungson in Mexico and Dr Marchesini in Brazil are excellent DS surgeons.

I'm kind of not surprised you got that reaction. Think about the reaction we get when we say we're having surgery to start with and "only" have 100 pounds to lose or even worse have less than that. I don't get it myself. Okay I do. I understand people have trouble if you make decisions that are different than them because they are insecure and it makes them think you are dissing their own decision somehow. But logically the number one regret of WLS peeps is "why didn't I do this sooner?" So we do it sooner and they say "you aren't big enough." It makes no sense.

I had revision from a Lap Band to RYN. My starting weight for RYN was 219 and I am now 153. I am 21 Months post op. I would LIKE to lose another 15-20 lbs but I haven't been able to, but I will continue to try. Revision was the best thing I EVER did. I weighed 271 when I got the lab band, so actually both of them worked but the lab band started causing me alot of acid refux and I wanted to loose MORE weight. I love RYN. I have had NO problems with it at all. I will say that weight loss is slower BUT the end result is the same. Good luck.
I had a revision VSG from a failed Lap-Band 2 weeks ago. I weighed 145 pounds roughly last Feb when the band slipped and was removed. They left port in (my surgeon was on vacation and they didn't know if he would replace). I spend months fighting the insurance company to get a revision and was denied 3 times because my BMI was too low. I was apparently "Cured of Obesity". .... They wouldn't even pay to remove the port!
My doc and I got tired of fighting and I just gave in to what seemed the inevitable. I gained 60 pounds with his blessing and borrowing my boyfriend's clothes..... My maintenance weight for 3 years was around 140 and calories probably around 700, so without any restriction, really easy to gain 60. Did it in record time. Got approved at a weight of 205. Scheduled surgery. Went back to eating ~700 calories (70+g protein,
I would only consider the DS. You're going to lose A LOT slower as a revision, so I'd discount RNY as a 2 step procedure. I was sub-200lb and I have a 75cm common channel (100 is fairly common CC length and 50cm is the shortest sensible length - there are folk out there with longer, but it's a bad idea for a 2 stepper IMO). My loss came to a stop on it's own when I hit the healthy range - I'd REALLY have to work to make it to the bottom end of the healthy range and I'm not prepared to be that saintly.
Check out Dr Ungson in Mexico or my surgeon Dr Himpens in Belgium. My surgery cost ~$16.5K for just part 2 of the DS.
With the DS you have to be committed to having 100g protein a day and taking at least 3 batches of vitamins a day. Check out Vitalady's DS vitamins here https://vitalady.com/vitanews/pre-packaged-regimens/

Hi truleefrea, I just had a revision on october 2013, though the reason was because i had ulcers, but i was gaining weight back I was weighing 180 lbs and now I am back to 158 lbs i am working my way down. I have no regrets for doing it the second time, so yes it is worth it if you want to lose your weight back I had the RNY done in 2009 and had many problems but i am doing so much better now. Good luck in your decision,
