Hello,

I am just starting my research but was hoping for input from some veterans. My BMI fluctuates between 29-31 but I am tired of struggling and want to get VSG. I am self employed so will pay out of pocket. Any suggestions on doctors in Mexico or other advice?

Thanks in advance!

My bmi was 33 & I paid out if pocket. $13,000. I found a center in Wyoming. I have no health issues. At my bmi he had to really think about doing vsg for me. In the end he excepted me as a preventative patient. Both sides of my family are in the upper 300s. And with my proven struggle to never have gotten below 178 I became a patient. If you find some one who will do it, don't think twice. I love it. I still struggle to behave and change my patterns, but it is so much easier now. Plus my depression had vanished. Best choice ever!

For Mexico for a sleeve, I would look at Dr. Aceves or Dr. Alvarez first and go from there. They are the most popular and have the best reputations for that operation.

But many surgeons in the US will do WLS on someone with a BMI of 30 especially if there is the right medical history. So Mexico isn't your only option. My surgeon is one of the fathers of the procedure here on the West Coast and he does consults with people of your BMI.

I have been researching for months now and going back and forth as to if I should even have WLS. I too, only have about 50-pounds to lose. My bmi is 30/31. I am so sick of always trying lose weight and it's just now fair that I cannot eat. I lost 60 pounds 2 years ago, got a tummy tuck and a breast lift and I have gained every bit of it back. I lost the weight through a doctors care had frequent check ups did it the "safe" way (so he said) I was taking prescribed phentermine and literally just starved myself. I was so happy with the end result, in fact happier, healthier, looked better than I ever did in my 20's. BUT, the minute I stopped taking the appetite suppressant it all went downhill. I can't take a diet pill for the rest of my life so of course the weight will come back. I just can't seen to keep it off I don't even eat that much or that bad I am just one of those people that is not allowed to eat anything but salads and I'm going crazy. I'm depressed all the time none of my clothes fit me I've even gone up a shoe size and 2 bra sizes not to mention 3 dress sizes. So 50-60 lbs doesn't seem like much to some, those who have 100+ to lose but it is a lot for me and it so very hard and I'm miserable because of it.   So Lolala33 I'm right there with you I wanna do it and everybody thinks I'm crazy for even thinking about it. I did decide on VSG and going to Mexico, so I am exactly on the same page as you. If you learn about or consult with a Dr. in MExico keep me posted.  (Sorry for venting on your post)... I am new at this posting on boards and have no idea what I'm doing. lol.
