Insomnia ? !
4 am and still awake, does this happen to anyone else. I have a script, but I dont use it often, and it is too late to take it now! Looks like an all nighter :(
the more I think about not being able to sleep, the more awake i am grrrrr
eta- this could be part of my hormonal nightmare that I posted about a few days ago OR just to much coffee at cards last night!

Sorry. I understand a little--I'm always up by 4AM. I can't sleep at night if I have any caffeine after about 3PM in the afternoon.

Yeap, totally understand...last night was one of them. Woke about 2 and haven't been back to sleep.
Some medications, even if they are used as a sleep aid can make a person have insomnia. So read all side effects of ALL medications. Add pain or worry or stress or illness and it ups the ante.
Hope you get some sleep tonight.

I do melatona every night. 10mg. I know a lot of folks can't take it because of nightmares but it does help me and I don't have the hung over feeling after drugs. There is also a slow release benedryl that some friends take. Haven't tried it but they swear by it.
since I decaffed, even a small amount of coffee, early in the afternoon keeps me away. It's great for when I am driving but bad for sleeping that night.

My problem is usually not falling asleep, it is waking up and not being able to go back to sleep, usually to go to the bathroom. I usually take Benedryl and melatonin if I need help sleeping. I have 3mg chewable melatonin and if I can't get back to sleep I will have one of those to help me. I stopped taking prescription sleeping meds a while ago when Ambien started giving me terrible side effects such as doing things and not remembering the next day. Scared my daughter to death. I decided to see what would happen if I didn't take any meds (been taking Ambien for years) and I was surprised to find I could fall asleep without them, or with just Benedryl or melatonin. Good luck. Insomnia is no fun.

Thanks Ladies, misery loves company. I have ambien 10 mg, I have been cutting them into thirds since my weight is down and they still work. BUT I only take them rarely, like 2 pills (6 times) gone in a year. I just need a future fortune teller to tell me which nights I need them LOL

I too can get to sleep, but wake up often at 3:20 am (yes, on the dot) and can't get back to sleep until around 6:30 then I'm late getting up.
I take Tylenol PM and Melatonin. I also take Nyquil... Tylenol and Nyquil do help me sleep through the night but have that groggy hung over feeling for a bit in the morning (yes, from the pills! lol)

I feel for you! I have struggled with off and on but it got VERY bad last spring and I was taking 10 mg of melatonin every night (very thankful it worked but hated having to take something). Eventually I realized how anemic I was and once this improved the insomnia gradually got better. I would give the melatonin a try on difficult nights if yiou have never tried it. Good luck!
