I am starting a new exercise program. I bought Billy Blanks Tae Bo DVD and Jillian Michaels shed & shred I am slowly working towards finishing a dvd per work out. right now I'm getting in about 12 minutes out of the 45 min video. So I'm getting there slowly. Also my hubby to be and I are going to start taking walks with the dogs. They haven't really been trained to be on leashes so I want them trained before the warm weather comes so that HOPEFULLY I can start walking/jogging with them. I have a medium sized dog and two lap dogs. Only one of them are good on the leash LOL. But I want to change that. So I'm starting my new years resolution now and starting an exercise program. I have been dependent on the exercise I was getting at work before but since I lost my job I need to do something new. I lost my job right before Thanksgiving and haven't really done much since. Time to pull myself up by the boot straps and get my ass moving. Pardon my french. My fiance and my mother are going through the steps now to have the surgery ( hopefully soon ) And it would be good for him to be exercising with me so the walking is perfect. And since I am eating ( drinking ) So many calories a day (1000) I need to add cardio as well. Plus what better way to exercise than to enjoy time to gether talking and walking our fur babies? Any one else have new years resolutions? ALSO can any one tell me about getting back to basics? What does that consist of? Do you just do protein shakes for a week? Ok thanks in advance. HUGS everyone, and thanks for being such a supportive group.

Congrats on starting your New Years resolutions - BEFORE New Years!

Back to basics - I don't consider that to be a "diet' for a week, but what we were taught when we had our surgery.  Protein first, measure/weigh, log.  Complex carbs (green/yellow veggies) and fruit after (if there is any room).  Be sure to get your vitamins in!

I agree with Jody about back to basics.  I did this WLS so I wouldn't have to DIET again.  I want a way of eating that means I don't have to diet.  I call it clean eating.  No white flour, white sugar, white potatoes.  Protein first, then green veggies.

good for you with the exercise.  I love walking and my muscle pump class.  I used to like some of the exercise things on the Wii but I haven't pulled that out in a good while.  The best thing about walking for me is that I can leave my front door and do it without having to drive anywhere.

Congrats on the exercise! Walking is awesome and even better with loved ones and furry babies! Great time to share or just enjoy the scenery!

Back to basics is just that. Protein first, then some veggies, no junk, cut out snacking unless its planned, no eating or drinking at 30 minutes before and after I eat, and atleast 64 0z of fluid a day. Also making sure I get all my vites, calcium and iron in too.

And I think the biggest thing for me is changing the all or nothing attitude. If I mess up, which I do, I just get back on track with the next meal. I really try not to let a slip up turn into a huge pity party. This is really a big one for me.

New years resolutions? Lately I look at each day as a new beginning, trying to live in the power of the present moment. So I don't know if I will have any this year.

The best and easiest resolution I ever made was to NOT make any other resolution...been doing that for 10 years now. It works.

However, back to basics..protein and fat first (I'm a DS'er) then good veggies. And plenty of fluid.

I guess I misunderstood what back to basics was. I did my walk yesterday... THoUGH It was VERY ShoRt because it was so cold out. The dogs had a good time out. We are going to do it again this morning after my Fiance takes my daughter to work. I will do my video while he is gone then when he gets back it will be out for a walk. This time the walk will be longer cuz it isn't going to be as cold today. I'm planning on eating a lot of tuna today, and I bought those little cheese cubes. Those are perfect with the tuna or for snacks. I dont think I got too many carbs in yesterday because I basically had protein shakes, egg, tuna and cheese. Today for dinner I'm having some mini mini meatballs with spaghetti sauce. They are only about a half inch big. I love them!!! I have to put the sauce on them because I get sick of the taste too easily if I don't. But with some melted cheese on them and sauce... yum. I'm trying to cut down on my shakes and get more food protein. So I have cut my shakes in half to two a day and am eating the rest of my calories. ( with what I've been eating I eat A LOT and OFTEN ) I'm doing 1050 calories a day, give or take a few and I think that's working for me. I woke up at 3 this morning to a sick puppy and after I got her taken care of I checked my weight and it said I was down an additional .4 lbs. Now I have to mention I was sick last night, throwing up... SOoooo the weight loss could be water.  I'm feeling better today so I am going to stick to my protein today. I had some tuna around 4 am and a bottle of water when I first woke up. I'm waiting my half hour to get in another bottle of water then I will do one of my two protein shakes. That will be 53 oz of water by the time I'm done with my first protein shake which will probably be finished around 6-7 am. so I have a plan to get my liquids in I will do two protein shakes in a row or if I can I will do a bottle of water between the two and between them, the exercising, and the walking, that should take me close to lunch time. ( i have some other running around to do this morning ) at lunch and at snack I'm going to have half can of tuna in water and 7 cubes of cheese. and at dinner time the meatballs. the food comes to about 60 grams of protein and the shakes come to the same. It's less protein then I was getting with the shakes but not much less. Only about 20-30 grams less. I'm trying to stay away from carbs. I really need to start getting some veggies into the mix. I wi**** was summer cuz I could really go for some watermellon. I know thats not low in carbs but it helps me go to the bathroom and it cures any sweet tooth I may have.
