Running - NOT for me

I have posted before about starting a running program.  Well, it just doesn't work.  I have tried it multiple times with progression.  EVERY time the next day my SI joint (that has pins in it from June) is killing me again!  I guess I need to do lower impact :(  Even a fast walk hurts me now, the running must have made me more prone to re-injury, because I could walk fast before!

I will get my rowing machine out and give it a try.  It can also be used as a recumbent bike, try some non weight bearing exercise for now.   I will find some exercise that works for me.  Just trial and error.

frustrated.....

Sorry to hear you are having pain, but I think it is key that you respect your body and listen to what it is telling you.

I hope you find something else soon. Swinging critters for you!

Thanks... I so wanted to be able to run again.  My son is in track and I wanted to show them (my family) I could be in fit, in shape too. I wanted to show off and go running with my 16 yr old LOL  :(

I am thin now, but wimpy.  I want to be tough, strong and fast  LOL

Some of us were not designed to run. Running can be really hard on joins. Good luck... I know yoga really works for my messed up back...

You will find something you can do.

I think the Army ran all the run out of me. I don't run...and if I am, you better start running too cause something big and hairy is after me.

How abou****er exercises like aquaaerobics or swimmiming?
That would be less stressful on your joints.  I believe stationary biking is also.

I don't run because I hate it!!

I loved running, it just didn't like me.  Acutally, my knees where in great shape while I was running but my hips gave out.

I, too was skinny but weak.  I tried a bunch of stuff from machines, to TRX to zumba and muscle pump.  I love muscle pump.  And it really has made me stronger.  DH kids me about being a muscle woman, no real chance of that but I am stronger and I really look forward to class.

I also have started walking each morning with the dog for a mile.  I like that too and like that I can just leave my house and do it.  That was one of the good things about running.  I did it as soon as I got up when the kids where still asleep and I had my exercise done for the day.  I love feeling like I have it done even if I am planning on going to class that night too.

I like Zumba but at my gym it is right after muscle pump and I can't do both, or Sunday afternoon.  Now that it is cooler, I like to drive the ponies on Sunday afternoon while it is warm instead of being done to go to class.

I'm sure you will find something you love, just keep trying stuff.

Todays exercise consisted of raking and wrapping my shrubs up for the winter.  It was 60 degrees and raining when I did it, but will be snow soon.  A front is coming thru and we had thunderstorms after I finished.   I grabbed the chance to do it during the short heat wave LOL

I like water classes, but I get too cold!  I will try the rowing machine tomorrow.  Thanks everyone :)

If you go to a gym, you may want to try the elliptical machine.  After I had my back surgery (years ago) I discovered it in physical therapy.  I loved it because it's no impact.
