50lbs gone in 4 months - and I'm a lightweight!
I'm 50 lbs down since surgery 7/16/13. But I think I'm hitting my first real stall, too. Scale hasn't moved more than a few tenths of a lb for 2 weeks. I find this is fairly normal during the 1st two weeks of my cycle - but still would like to see it continue downward. I have been swimming 3-4 times a week for exercise and I think I'm ready to incorporate weights - thinking of joining Planet Fitness.
Is a 4 month stall normal? (I did do a search - none of what came up seemed to apply). I saw my NUT three weeks ago and she told me to keep protein at 80g and increase calories. What do you all think?
Christine
congrats!!!! Sounds like you are doing great!!
I never really stalled but did slow down around 5 months. I agree with getting your protein up. Have you had labs? I found I need to keep my protein over 100 to keep my labs good. When mine slowed down, I found I lost better if I kept the calories around 1000 and carbs less than 30 net, protein over 100.

Yes I had labs done and everything was fine. I do try to keep carbs down, but I think I have had a bit more bread lately. I find it fills me up more than just chicken and veggies. (Not a lot, like a slice a day). I think I'm going to take yours and majormom's advice and go back to upping my protein.
Awesome job so far. I think stalls at some point are normal, it's just your body taking a breather. It should start up again soon. As far as the NUT's advice...bless her heart. We malabsorbers need more protein than a normie, add a protein shake or protein coffee or protein chai tea. They seem like magic for many folks; helps them lose when they're stalled.

I use reduced caffeine. If you're following a low fat diet you can sub skim milk, water, or almond milk for the 1/2 & 1/2 cream).
Protein Coffee
brew a pot of your favorite coffee - we like chocolate raspberry (you can also brew chai tea and use in place of coffee)
In a 20 oz blender bottle with wire ball, add 2 oz of heavy whipping cream and 2 oz of cool water, or 4 oz of half & half, a packet of Truvia or Splenda, a couple of dashes of cinnamon, and a heaping scoop of Syntrax Nectar vanilla protein powder.
Shake about 5 seconds to blend
Pour the protein slurry into a huge mug and fill to the top with coffee
Sir to blend and enjoy!
Always add hot liquid to cold protein slurry to keep the protein from clumping.
Always check the ingredients of a protein powder before you buy it to ensure the first ingredient listed is whey protein isolate. Don't trust the splashy label on the front.

Some Drs are way against protein suppliments, some are ok with it. Luckily, mine is fine and I love my protein drinks. Even with 130-150g a day, my protein stays at the bottom of normal so I know I couldn't keep it up without them. My meals are all protein based.
