Pre-op diet Help
I have directions from my doctor for a 80gm protein and 1,000 calorie a day diet. It says I can have Decaf tea or coffee in moderation...does that include creamer?
It says I can have sugar free beverages but does not list soda?
I know I need to ask my Dr. but I have to start tomorrow...and it will be Sunday and the office will not be open.
What were the rules for your p diet?
Thanks!
I hope someone will chime in for you today. I had to do a liquid preop diet for 2 weeks.
But I guess if you count your creamer in your calorie totals you should be able to have it.
I think no soda is to get you ready for the postop phase, to try to stay away from it.
Congrats on your beginning your journey!
Good luck!

Do yourself a favor and stop the diet soda now. You won't be able to have it post-op and believe me when I saw the withdrawal from it when stopping cold turkey sucks! You don't want to deal with that post-op.
As for the creamer, straight cream would be fine if you're including it in your total calorie count. if you're using one that is flavored or sweetened, I would suggest stopping that now also because post-op you don't want to be using it. Sugar-free creamers would be OK but some people are sensitive to the alcohol sugars that are sometimes present in sugar-free products.
Every Dr seems to have their own version of a pre-op diet. Mine was 4 weeks of 5 optifast shakes a day and one small food meal.
good advice already but just wanted to stess decaf and decarbing now. If you haven't already, cut the caffiene slowly or you get a horrible headache. Stay away from soda, won't be allowed after surgery. count your creamer in your totals. Many of us drink protein decaf, mix your vanilla or whatever protein powder with some warm water and use that as a creamer. Ups your protein and you don't have to worry about the sugar or fat, esp while you are keeping your calories low.
Good luck. Let us know how things are going.
