Wedding dress shopping... Off wls topic
Today I go back out there in the cold cruel world looking for a wedding dress. Because we decided to get married almost a year sooner than planned I am not going to be in a tiny wedding dress. I went about a month ago and tried on dresses. I was between a 16-18. I need to find a dress with a corset because I'm no where near either size. I'm smack dab in the middle. I don't have money to have a lot of alterations. I am looking at clearance racks and second hand stores for dresses... for two reasons. ONE We are saving the money we planned on using for the wedding for a house and adoption. TWO I don't really want to spend a ton of money on a dress that isn't even in the size I wish I were. It's not like I will be able to hand down the dress to one of my daughters. My oldest daughter is much much bigger than me and my younger daughter is about 4 sizes smaller than me. They can only alter a dress two sizes. SOoooo it's not like the dress will get more than one use. I plan on donating it or finding someone in need on craigslist to give the dress to. I want to find someone in a situation like me, that wants a nice dress for a beautiful day but just doesn't have the money to get one. I want to make someones wedding an extra special day. BUT first I have to find a dress. ANY way this is way off topic. I'm kind of bummed because I thought that when we got married I would be able to find a dress easily because I was going to be a smaller size. I have searched craigslist but most of the dresses are between size 6-12 I'm a bit bigger than that. If I were at goal I would have plenty to choose from on that list but right now there just aren't any for me. Any way I will let you guys know if I find anything and how I feel about it when I do.
Ok well heading to the gym in about an hour so I guess I'm out of here.
Oh and today it's only 6:18 and I am working on my first shake.
I have been up since 4 so I'm not doing bad on my eating so far.
ALSO I ordered different protein powder off of amazon. THey were having a special on buy one get one free. I couldn't pass it up. I have tried this kind before from walmart and I like it plus it has 23 grams of protein compared to the 16 in the muscle milk and it's only 20 calories more per scoop. If that means I have to up my calories a day I'm fine with that. It should be here any day now. I'm going to pack up my water bottle with me and see what happens today. It could be a long day today. Hopefully it's a happy successful day and not depressing. The last time I went on a search for a dress the only one I could find that looked good on me was a size 18 and it was almost 1500 dollars. RIdiculous!!!
Congrats on your wedding plans!!!
Butler's not too far away (every things cheaper than Pgh.) and we have a consignment shop called Second Time Around that has a lot of wedding dresses. On Facebook there is the Pittsburgh Wedding Flea Market site. There are probably other wedding sites too on facebook.
We also have a wonderful seamstress in Butler that is super cheap and it would be worth the drive. We have had her for years and she does a fantastic job. She also alters for a local Bridal Shop.

I was in the shower and thought about David's Bridal. My niece got one of the most beautiful dresses I have ever seen on their $99.00 rack.
If you decide to come to Butler....I LOVE Wedding Dress Shopping....hint!

When I got married, I lost 70 pounds for the wedding. They made me order my dress in the size I was (16-18) and when it came I was a size 12. They altered it just fine. It was like I got a custom wedding dress for the price of an off-the-rack one! ($500 for the dress and $300 to have it altered -- those were 1989 prices.)
Btw, I was a size 12 then but I was only 20 pounds more than I weigh now at a size 2. LOL So it's really an 6 in today's sizes. Or maybe an 8 because I'm more muscle-y now.
I was thinking about wearing it for our 25 wedding anniversary next year but its too big. And my daughter would never wear it -- it's not her style.
My point is: I don't think most wedding dresses get worn more than one time no matter what your plans or your size is. I was a perfectly reasonable size when I got that dress and *I* can't even wear it now let alone my daughter. Just find a dress you like that is reasonably priced, assume it will need to be altered a bit because even size 2 people end up getting their wedding dresses altered, and enjoy your wedding day!
