Hi,

I am hoping people can give me some advice.

How many calories should I be eating? My Dr gave me protein goals.. 60 grams , once I hit 3 months, I am supposed to work towards 90 gr a day of protien..

But what about calories? Can someone tell me what they are doing? I am about 9-10 weeks out from RNY

My program was pretty much 500 to 600  up to 6 months because that was about all I could manage.  At six months I could get in about 800 to 900 calories and at 9 months I was getting in about 1000.   Once I hit my final goal I started adding in about 100 calories a day or so, usually a protein shake, until my weight stabilized, which wasn't as easy as it sounds.  I don't count calories now, just protein, as long as my weight stays stable.

This is where my program starts everyone:

Calories: under 800

Protein: 70-90 g (but 100 g is better)

Carbs: under 40 g

Fats: under 30 g

Combine with 45+ min of exercise 4-5x a week, 50% cardio, 50% strength

Then they adjust based on individual cir****tances.

Here's what I did my entire first year:

WELCOME!!!!!  Congrats on your Surgery!!!

I averaged 500-600 calories early out then I stayed at around 800 for a long time.  At 5 years out I get around 1300.  I NEVER took in 1000 until I was at goal and I only increased to that because I added in more Protein drinks.

Protein Goals of 60 are good if you are drinking Whey Protein but if you are trying to get all of your Protein through food your calories will be higher and your body won't absorb all of those Proteins.

Early out I based everything I ate on Protein.  Once I was able to find a good Protein Drink to hit my totals then I started adding other foods like fruits and grains. Most of us who are further out get way over 100 grams of Protein just through drink alone everyday.

Good topic, thanks for asking, I was wondering about this too. I usually get in between 400 and 600 cal per day but I'm still not getting enough protein, so I'm going to focus on that, (and getting the water in).
