How did you make it through?

I am having my surgery done on the 19th of November.  I have to go on a 9 day Pre-op diet.  I am so worried about sticking to this diet. I can't imagine a liquid diet for that long. Can anyone share how they made it through thier Pre-op diets?

Mine was 2 weeks, but not all liquids.  I was allowed a small meal of meat and veggies for dinner plus shakes during the day.  You will do it, just another step to your goal.

Mine was 2 weeks, but I was allowed a small reasonable meal once a day.  After the 3rd day, it was much easier.  I did the bariatric advantage protein and mixed it with milk and added fruit occasionally.  Mixing it with water just did not hold me long enough.  Good luck.

One good thing about my surgeon is that he didn't require any pre surgery diets or even bowel prep.  To me it seems like cruel and unusual punishment to force a person who has resorted to major surgery because they aren't able to stick with a diet and force them to diet to get the surgery.  I know it's supposed to help shrink the liver but other then that I think it is a mind game some doctors play to see if you really are committed to the lifestyle change.  How are we supposed to do this without a tool to help us?  Isn't that the reason for WLS, to give us help to do what we can't do on our own?

I picked the perfect holiday to really torture myself--  I'll be "cleansing" ON T-Day. Joy joy....

It was either that or wait until like February so I need to just keep that in mind as I dash back and forth to my bathroom.

I think I had to do a week and I don't remember it being miserable.  I think I was just to excited for my Surgery Date.

Hi! I am right there with you. Well, almost. My surgery is 10 days after you and I have a 3-day pre-op clear liquids diet.

I read somewhere, I think on these OH forums, that it's good to space the protein so you are getting 10 grams at a time and that way never hungry.

That started me thinking.... Atkins induction might be a good 'secret weapon' for me. I totally lose my appetite on that within three or four days because of all the protein, which fills you. I think I'm going to go on induction on 11/18, one week from surgery. Instead of "the last meal" being a sugar and carb fest, mine will include raw butter and my favorite farm's bacon.... maybe a little something smothered in hollandaise too, since it'll be a bit before I see that stuff on my plate again :) Maybe that way I'll go into the liquid diet without much appetite. I'll have to write how it worked for me on my profile, afterward. I eat low carb now, but I've been straying and haven't been following anything resembling induction! I think I'll feel better going into surgery that way.

So anyway, that's my plan. I'm so freaking excited the surgery is getting close!

GOOD LUCK!!  !
