Most of you know I have been sick since mid August with cramping, back pain and nausea. My PCP ruled out things like kidney stones, urine infection, etc. before he sent me to a Gastroenterologist and Urologist. I switched Urologists this week because my previous one took 6 weeks to get me in and then scheduled me 3 weeks apart for 2 more tests.

The new Urologist was very nice and very compassionate. He put a scope into my bladder (which wasn't going to be done by the first Dr. until Nov. 26th) and he said there are signs of infection on the walls. He says since everything else has been ruled out I have Interstitial Cystitis. From the brochures he gave me it is not life threatening but  it is not curable but can be managed with diet.

This is where my anxiety starts!!!!!!!    NO beans which means no more Wendy's Chili, no yogurt, no artificial sweetners, no canned meats, no aged cheese,  most nuts and fruits are on the do not eat list, no salad dressing (hahaha...just found one I like), etc. etc.  What the crap can I eat?????   I'm allowed bread, pasta, potatoes, rice, (non acid) vegetables white chocolate, melon, blueberries, pears, and fresh meats.  It says to plan my meals around the "bad carbs" I listed!!!!!!

Well the "diet" has to start after I go to the grocery store.  I brought chili and an apple for lunch which are both on the top of the "do not eat" list.

The one thing I do right and thank goodness I don't have to change is eating small meals instead of large ones.

I'm so suppose to eliminate the foods and give my bladder time to heal and then gradually add some back in to see what I can tolerate.

Oh Roz, that meal plan would be hard for me to do except the meats!   Do you have to take an antibiotic or anything like that?  I

Glad you found someone that could at least try and figure it out quickly for you.  Hope you feel better soon!!

He said Antibiotics won't help. He gave me a medicine called Vesicare that I have to take FOR 2 weeks and then a prescription for Cytotec gel.  I go back in 2 weeks and he is going to put the gel in me.

Do you think there is acid in my Protein drinks? I'm not allowed anything with caffeine either.

I don't think there is any acid in our protein drinks.  They do not have caffeine in them I know.

Here is the link to the Mayo Clinic website about this.  It is pretty interesting reading.  After reading this, I remembered there is a girl I work with that has this.  She has eliminated artificial sweeteners and is much better.  She has not changed her diet in any other areas.  I think each person has to figure out what aggravates theirs.

Thanks for the web site Linda!  We were slow at work yesterday so I was checking out a few websites but the Mayo Clinic didn't come up.

Oh, I have heard of that Roz.  Maybe get on some reputable internet sites to investigate it (like mayocinic.com)  I bet you can even find an online support group. Are you still in contact with your  nutritionist.  maybe she can help you out with your diet.

Oh, heck no!  You've got to get some more creative dietary advice. Can I post your issue without giving you away on a group with 2 dietitians? Maybe they can help.

Bummer! At least you can still use protein shakes. I believe, however, that the Nectar ones have artificial sweeteners don't they? May have to switch to some with stevia.

As far as acid,I would google " is whey protein acidic" and see. I don't know about that. You might have to switch to egg protein or something. I guess I would google acid foods and find out for sure.
Glad you found out what it is and maybe you can get some relief.
