I was told that I have to be weaned off caffeine 1 month before surgery.  So, I need to find some decaf and low acid coffee.  Any suggestions?

Thanks for replying!

Seems a little over aggressive. Never heard of a doc making that some kind of requirement 1 month prior. Anyway, I looked on Amazon and found these http://www.amazon.com/s/?ie=UTF8&keywords=low+acid+coffee+de caf&tag=googhydr-20&index=aps&hvadid=31588859197&hvpos=1t1&h vexid=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=2086794801989823973&hvpone=&hvptwo=&h vqmt=b&hvdev=c&ref=pd_sl_1mdvdku7ym_b

I bet they are all pretty good. I like smooth coffee too. I mix decaf with caffeinated. Once I blend a vanilla protein powder slurry, I top it off with reduced caffeine coffee. MmmMmm good! broken heart

I haven't worried about the acid part, switching to decaf was enough change for me.  Do it slowly because a no caf headache is horrible.  I did fine that any brewed decaf was way better than any instant.  I tried the instant for a while because it seemed silly to brew 2 pots of coffee each day but it is so much better that now DH had his big pot and I have a little 5 cup pot that I make and drink daily.  I also use protein to "cream" my coffee and so I get my hot beverage and protein all in at the same time.

Hi Price S,

I have a big haital hernia which causes severe acid reflux.  So, I drink Kava it's low acid but it is caffeinated and it's instant. I'm going to shop around, I was told by someone that Folgers makes Simply Smooth easy for the stomach and it comes in decaf as well.  Adding protein to coffee sounds great.  Which protein powder and flavor do you use?

Thanks!

this morning I had vanilla protein with a splash of SF peppermint syurp. The trick is to not mix your protein into anything really hot.  I mix about 1/2 to 2/3 cup warm water with 1 1/2 scoop of protein to "cream" my decaf with.  I use vanilla, chocolate, mint cookie, chocolate carmael, you get the picture, almost anything.  It works unless you really like coffee black.

I would recommend that you try brewing your decaffinated coffee a different way.  I have been using a "cool brew" process for years and it involves making a coffee concentrate.  According to the website the cool brewing process eliminates 67% of the acid.  From personal experience, I can tell you that the coffee is almost sweet without sugar or sweetner being added and ever person I've shared it with love it.  I've included a link:
