OT: Back surgery scheduled

I am having back surgery on the 21st.

I ended up going to an orthopedic spine surgeon not a neuro spine surgeon. IF they are spine surgeons, not a whole lot of difference in spine surgery IF it's based on things like slipped/herniated disks.

I saw him this morning. He looked at my old MRI's and X-Rays from before my first surgery. And the MRI & X-Ray I had done in May. Looking at the one from May, he noticed some fluid where it wasn't suppose to be, swelling around the spinal cord and it's pinching my spinal cord. No wonder I'm losing the feelings in my legs.

However, rather than open up the old incision, he will go in my side, scrape out the bad disk and then from a incision on one side, he will insert the pins and rod on one side. He doesn't need anchor both sides.  And he is going to check L2 which is starting to bulge but he's hoping that by stabilizing L3, he can avoid L2 from getting worse.

Said I would be in the hospital one, MAYBE two nights...and by 6 weeks, I should be healed pretty much. He did say that it does take about 3 months to fully heal. And walking is my best PT after surgery.

I REALLY liked this guy...and I like that he was being conservative while also NOT discounting my issues.

LOL, Price, I did that back in April when I thought I was gonna have surgery in July. Since I knew it was just a delay, I kept my protein high.

It's a shame that you have to go through this but It is great that you found a new Dr. that you feel comfortable with and he had an opening on his schedule!
