OT - outsourced=Depressed
Trying to stay away from food!! I found out today that my job is being outsourced to an outside vendor. They gave me a small severance package and showed me the door. I did not see that coming, totally clueless that the board was considering this. Almost 5 years shot to hell.

Will the firm hire anyone from the company? Sometimes they do that.

Candy, I am sorry...
After you have a good cry, pick yourself up and move forward. Remember the door may be closed but there is an open window close by!

I've been there. I had a job for 8 years and it was outsourced to India because they could pay a lot less. To tell you the truth I was relieved. I had gotten to where I hated that job but felt trapped. I looked for other work and got no responses. I was thrilled to be getting unemployment and able to look for work. It took me 3 years but truthfully I wasn't looking the whole time. That is when I was having severe health issues and when I had my revision I stopped looking because I wasn't able to complete the work search requirements. It was very discouraging but now I have a job I really like that is perfect for me. Everything happens for a reason is what I believe. You will be in my thoughts and prayers that this is the beginning of a great future.

Oh No! I'm so sorry to hear this.
Like Marie said - sometimes the outside vendor will hire those being let go. Look into it... you never know.
(((HUGS)))
Unfortunately I have to let someone go on Monday and she won't see it coming either. It's due to budget cuts (government sequestration) This is going to be very hard for me to do...

Thanks ladies, the outside vendor is not local and they are doing the work off site so that is not an option. They did not even tell me which vendor, but I am fairly certain I know because they do other stuff for us.
This situation is complicated by the fact I am scheduled for surgery in October to have my bladder and bowel tacked up and my uterus and cervix removed. Was getting TT after this operation. My health insurance is with my DHs company so that is not changing. But now I wont have disability insurance and I am pretty sure I cant get unemployment while disabled. So that means a month with no pay!!!!
I have to speak to the unemployment agency next week. I am getting paid with regular payroll for a month as my severance and I don't know how or when to collect benefits.
I will see things more clearly after I talk to UIA. I also may ask to have my surgery moved up if there are openings. Ironically I waited till October to schedule it for convenience of my work!

I feel for you. I've been in your shoes.
Losing a job is a grieving process and you go through the seven steps of grief.
1. SHOCK & DENIAL-
2. PAIN & GUILT-
3. ANGER & BARGAINING-
4. "DEPRESSION", REFLECTION, LONELINESS-
5. THE UPWARD TURN-
6. RECONSTRUCTION & WORKING THROUGH-
7. ACCEPTANCE & HOPE-
If the company is into cost cutting that much to outsource the jobs (which they will later find to be a mistake because outsourced jobs are never done as well as they can be done in house), then it's best that you find another place to work at - where you will be valued.
And you can go on disability while you are out on your surgery. But to be honest, I would not say a word about it. Just keep on applying for jobs (and hope no one calls you in for an interview) and keep collecting your checks. The minute you try to be honest with the disability or unemployment departments (I find), the more they screw with your benefits, drag their feet, go into a tail spin and can't make a decision - all the while, you are not getting any benefits at all! And that is exactly what your state wants to happen. They are not incentivized to get your issues settled, trust me on this. The less you look to them for guidance or resolution, the better off you will be.
You are going to find a better job. Every time I got laid off (happens a lot in Silicon Valley), I always found a better job with more pay. You will look back on this and thank those cost cutting jerks a year from now - it will be poetic justice.
