been gone a long time mostly out of frustration
3 months 4 days out... only 39 lb loss. I am NOT getting my protein in, NOt getting my liquids in. Is it inappropriate to stick to shakes only? I can't figure out foods that are high in protein but not out rageous in calories. On days that I'm even close to 60 grams of protein I have super high calories sometimes reaching as high as 1000 calories. I'm only 3 months out and should NOT be eating that many calories!!!! I'm so frustrated and upset. Yes I have lost weight and I'm down jeans sizes but I can't take this. I'm supposed to be at a 75lb loss by six months and I just don't see that happening if I keep going like this. Also I am loosing my hair which started around month 2.. well a little before. I'm gonna be bald by the time I am done with this. I'm about ready to chop my hair all off. I AM exercising. I clean about 10 hrs a week fast paced heavy cleaning for some lady so I'm burning lots of calories there but I'm sick of this ultra slow weight loss. I'm tired of this. I am just so frustrated. I want to loose the rest of this weight. What are some low calorie high protein foods besides cottage cheese and yogurt... sick to death of both of them because I ate so much when i was early post op
It's not inappropriate to supplement with protein shakes but you're going to drive yourself crazy trying to do low carb AND low calorie. Low carb is the best IMO. You keep your carbs well below 50 grams a day and forget about counting the damn calories. You really are doing quite well, so don't beat yourself up too bad. Try to use the protein supplements to your advantage, eat as if you were on the Atkins diet with some fresh salads, and definitely work on your fluids. You can do this!
Losing hair is a rite of passage after WLS. It will grow back. Hang tough!

13 # a month isn't bad. I know you see the heavier folks losing that much in a month but we are lightweights and we don't have that much to lose.
We never!!!!! counted calories during the losing phase. Count protein and fluid. You have!!!!! to get those in. Protein will help with the hair regrowth and will help you lose. Add some protein suppliments. You need food too but 3 oz of beef or chicken or fish isn't going to push the calories up. Greens, green beans, squash, etc are great and have almost no calories.
I did cut my hair when it started coming out and have kept it short. The benefit is for the first time in 60+yrs, I have curls. Who'd of guessed it would grow back with curl.

My waves turned into a blond AFRO LITERALLY . What IS it about WLS ( and chemotherapy ) that gives you ever curlier /kinkier hair ?!!
I think I'm gonna love t though when it finally grows below my waist .. there was this incredibly hot grrl in high school who had the softest curly huge butt-length MANE constantly trailing behind her like a CLOUD ...
I think your numbers are right in line with most of us here. You are not going to drop 50 pounds a month because you don't have that much to lose.
We were told not to focus on calories while in the losing phase. Concentrate on protein first, then veggies(not starchy) if you have any room left. Eat very slowly but after 15 - 20 minutes quit eating, chew each bite a lot and don't drink with your meals(that is for RNY - not sure about VSG).
I say watch the carbs also and do higher protein. Join us on Menus and Miles each day and post what you are eating, you can get some great advice there. Look at our menus to get ideas of what we are eating(some days are better than others for me).
Who gave you the 75 pound goal at 6 months? I think that is high for a lightweight. SouthernLady post a percentage of weight loss calculation that you can go back on this board and find. Plug your numbers into that and I think you will see you are doing a good job.
Whatever you do - don't stop coming to the board because you feel defeated - that is when most people really start giving up and messing up.

At 3 months, we were still on 6-8 meals a day. Eating smaller, more frequently keeps your metabolism up. At almost 3 yrs out, I still eat 3-4 protein based meals a day and 4 protein suppliments. Try posting on Miles and menus and see what suggestions folks may have. I know I couldn't eat enough at that point to do 2 meals and 2 proteins and not feel very hungry and miserable.
