swore I wouldn't do this, but...
Okay, I'm worried about how slowly I'm losing already. I weighed 233 when okayed for surgery and 222 on day of surgery - 3 weeks ago. The week after surgery - after the bloating - I was back to 222. I am now at 213.8. I seem to be losing a little less than a lb a week. I eat between 600-800 calories, get fluid and protein in, started exercising more this week. I keep thinking if I'm not losing quickly at this low calorie range how will I ever maintain or manage and will I have to go lower? And at the same time I keep thinking about the whole "eating less than 1200 calories puts you in starvation mode so your body is readjusting to lower needs" - so am I just resetting my body to be fat with even LESS food?
AND I know it's all silly and time will change - but it's nagging. Eight years ago I had lapband surgery and lost weight with the low calories at a quicker rate - I started at 245 then. I know I should be happy that the pounds are coming off, but I keep thinking that it should be faster given how much I'm eating and what I'm doing. I keep track on myfitnesspal.
Thanks for letting me moan.
Christine
According to my math, you've lost 9 lbs in 3 weeks. The first week was the water you gained in the hospital, the other 9 was in the past 2 weeks - I think that's awesome!! You are a lightweight. Look at it as percentage of weight lost, and not so much the pounds (I know, easier said than done). Those 9 pounds represents 5% of your body weight.
My first month I lost 10 lbs. 2nd month 8, 3rd month 10, then it slowed down a bit after that, but was consistent. I was at goal in 9 months.
Now - it's typical at the 3 week mark to go into a "stall"... so don't let that freak you out. Your body is just resetting itself then you will be on your way again!
You will not fail - this will be an awesome journey for you.

Congrats on your surgery Christine,
First off....PLEASE quit trying to put yourself down for not loosing your weight quicker. Our bodies loose at the rate that it wants to. Keep doing what you are doing. Look at the BIG PICTURE...the weight IS coming off. Maybe not as quickly as you'd like but it is coming off. At almost 8 yrs. post op WLS I still have problems figurinig out how it works. LOL If you don't do "enough" calories your body holds on to the weight.....you need at least 600 calories a day. I personally would NOT go over 800 a day....you are pretty new post op. I don't think my calories went to 1200 till I was about a year out so I think your doing great. Don't try to compare your WL journey now to the one you had with lap band. You are now 8 yrs. older and when you get older it doesn't sometimes come off as quickly. Take things one day at a time. Look at yourself in the mirror everyday and tell your self that you are going to do it this time and be a big success. This is a LIFETIME journey.....trust me....some days we ALL struggle with what our brains try to tell us that's not true. You WILL be successful if you don't concentrate on how slow the weight is coming off and celebrate every ounce of weight your body sheds. We ALL need to be a little nicer to ourselves and love ourselves more ( trust me....I need to take my own advice lots of the time. LOL ). Just hang in there.....your body may drop 3 to 4 lbs. overnight. Just keep doing what your doing. I for one am proud of your success !!!

If you haven't measured yourself yet this is the time to do so. You might be shocked at how many inches you have lost and during a stall the inches just seem to melt off.

You really are fine. Follow your plan, get in your fluid and protein and kick the scale out to the street. this really will work. Just do it and stop worrying.
