feeling tired
Hi all,
I'll be two weeks post op tomorrow - I saw my dr. last Thursday and he told me to start exercising, mostly weights - cool - I've been doing well. Only problem has been a pain in my side near the drain that he gave me antibiotics for and it's about 90% gone. Well today I got up early for the first time since I've been on leave - went to a follow up with my GP office, came home, went back to bed, (taking my proteins in between) got up and feel really weak. I went to the store with my son and felt exhausted, clammy, like the blood drained out of my face. Now I'm home and lying on the couch. Any ideas of what's going on? I plan to go back to work on Wednesday - and worked a bit yesterday - but right now I feel like I can't function - and I want to work out! Is this weird, or just me being inactive for too long?
Christine
PS - I have been taking dog walks everyday since surgery.
Too soon. Concentrate on staying super hydrated and rest. Start your protein and when you fell better start your vitamins slowly. Once all that is going well, start the weights, but slowly. This is a marathon not a sprint. Hang in there. : )

I agree with Gina. You are moving pretty quickly. I found that similar things would happen to when a "system" woke up finally in my new body. Kind of like low blood sugar finally waking up to the new diet and sweeping you off your feet.

35 pounds of regain!!! 30 lost!!! Just a little more to go.
It took me a month to get my strength back - and longer before I was up to exercising.
Take it easy, stay hydrated (hard to do at this point of your journey) and don't push yourself too hard. The walks are good, but don't rush the weights.

I agree with the rest of the replies. 2 weeks is not enough time to recoup before starting weight lifting or even going back to work full-time. Of course everyone is different and there might be those out there who have done these things but apparently your body needs to rest.
At 4.5 years out I still get tired and clammy even a little shaky if I don't get my liquids in or if I haven't eaten for awhile. What you need to concentrate on now is...rest and fluids. What are you eating? Eat foods with some substance like pureed meat.
If you don't need to rush to full-time days of work I would start slow.

Thanks all. I started pureed foods today. I hadn't actually started lifting weights yet, but maybe just getting out of the house and running around was a bit much for me. Put off going to work one more day and will only be working a day and a half this week. Thanks for all the info, it makes me feel better that it's not just me being a super wimp. Up until today I have been focusing on fluids and protein and doing well with that.

You're HEALING ! I personally just WALKED ( but i walked every hour or so for ten minutes or until I got tired from right after surgery) for a long time . Please don't forget U just had major INTERNAL surgery .. and it takes MONTHS to securely heal ...
WEIGHTS ? I would NEVER chance it ..the strain ... for me merely going to a store was EXHAUSTING . Please listen to Ur body
