I'm on the emotional eating rollercoaster and can't seem to get off, I'm eating the town out of candy. I'm 34 and thinking of going back to college for nursing. School was very hard for me. I'm actually a drop out. I did go back to a technical school and received my diploma in human services and disabilities. But I am tired of getting low paying jobs. I work at a school during the year plus an evening job and I work for the hospital during the summer. That's 3 jobs all with kids. And still make under 20,000. I'm tired of being broke. My significant other says "who cares I make plenty of money for the both of us and you don't need to work. "He paid for my surgery and bought me a new Harley. I don't think he understands that maybe I'd like to take care of him, let him retire, run the Ranch and I bring in the money. He is very supportive of my decision and has offered to pay for my schooling too. I guess I'm just stressed about failing, work and money, I hate being dependent. He says we're a team but I don't feel I contribute. Holy cow any of you guys counselors! New Day tomorrow, one step at a time. Breathe breathe breathe no more candy
they do surgery on our tummies, not our brains. Emotional eating is real and although I think I handle stress pretty well, lately, it has been overwhelming and I have a hard time staying out of the candy too. I try drinking more and that seems to help. Plus getting out of the house/office to the barn or garden. Exercise classes help.
I went back to school and got a 2nd masters when I was older than you and had 2 children. I only took one class at a time because I was working full time but it was actually much easier than I thought it would be. give it a try. I think you will be surprised and how differently you learn and comprehend now as an adult.

Question time...how long will it most likely take to get your nursing degree? Add that many years to your current age...will not going back to school change your age? What it can change is your outlook and future.
I understand feeling dependent...we all want to stand on our own feet but sometimes you have to lean on someone for a time to get to that point. If the roles were reversed, would you tell your significant other that it's too late, they are too old?
The only time you get too old is when you give up.

And if you don't go back to school, aren't you gonna be 38/39 at some point anyway? And even more frustrated in your current situation?

A very good friend of mine "blames" me for her Master's Degree...
Back in the early 90's, we both worked as desk clerks in a motel. While the job wasn't that hard, it wasn't the best paid either. I decided to go back to school to get a paralegal degree (I was in my 40's at that time). But one day, I needed a ride to school while my car was being bandaged back together and she helped me out. She had mentioned before about possibly going back to school and I got her to see a counselor while she was at the school...she ended up taking a career test and by the time I finished my paralegal studies, she was in school...oh and she started with less than one year of college credit under her belt.
Btw, I never did work as a paralegal...got married and became a mom instead to a 10 year old.
However, my friend went on to not only get her bachelor's degree...she even managed her master's. She is in a job she adores...no, she's not making much more money than before but she is so much happier. But to this day she says I'm to blame...that if I hadn't hauled her butt into that counselor office that day, she would never have had to deal with math and English, etc, LOL. For her graduation present, my husband and I paid for her to get her state license. She's a counselor to at risk kids.
