Weight gain not all me

Hi friends!

Well, about 2 months ago I shamefully returned with weight gain. Then I found out my stoma was HUGE causing me to be hungry all the time. Then I had hiatal hernia repair. I was server my anemic so I started infusions. Because id be out if the gym, I started dieting. The dieting interfered with my healing, and I ended up with a severe infection. I was told to stop dieting and gained more weight.

I'm back to the gym and just found out I have hypothyroidism and I'm getting tested in the AM for insulin resistance. I'm about ready to get back to my diet though- I'm so miserable with the gain.

I need you all! I was reluctant to post because I initially got a few of the "if you gained, man up and follow the rules" responses. Not ok on so mane levels! But I know this board is uber supportive and I need you!! See you soon!

sounds like you have been through the ringer.  so sorry.

Protein will help you heal but not gain.  Get some protein shakes, whatever you can do and like, and get up to about 150g of protein a day.  Be sure you are getting your vits and minerals in.  They are so important also.  Eating 6x a day will help with your insulin and metabolism.  I don't think you need to diet, just get your protein up, be sure your levels are all ok and you don't need to adjust your vits and minerals.  Exercise as you can, even if it is just taking a walk.

This is a life long journey.  We did it to get healthy, not to get sick.  Look at what you need to do to be healthy and get on with your life.  And we are here to help.  Check in and let us know how you are doing.

Thanks so much

I agree with everything you said....except I do need to diet. I gained a lot without binging and weight loss is impossible. I exercise 6 days a week, I teach kickboxing, and I just got my personal traine certification- yay!

Carbs, unfortunately are needed to heal, and they are the devil. I need to cut those, as well as calories, but I hope to soon.

Thanks for the empathy and inspiration!

Welcome back.

Did they do anything about your stoma when they did your hitial hernia repair?  Sorry you have had to go through all this.

I love the support I get from this board and it really helps me so much.

I post my meals on here and on MyFitnessPal.  I find it really helps me.  Hope you can find something that fits into your schedule and helps.

We are here for you!!

It sounds like you have been through a lot.  Don't beat yourself up about it cause it's not all your fault.

Don't listen to the others on the other boards - they tend to be under-educated as to each persons individual issues and then, are judgemental.

Do whatever you need to do to make yourself healthy and happy!

I truly believe that isolation is SO not the answer with re-gain or any other struggle.  You have a lot of factors that have contributed to gaining weight...plus, the further out of RNY, the harder it gets!  I was recently diagnosed with severe anemia and the iron infusion made such a difference with my energy and I am not back in the gym and started running again.  Just keep on keeping on.   See what  your stomach can handle with the hernia...i.e. increasing protein.  This will also help with fullness (I am HUNGRY often too!).  I also have lipedema which causes huge fluid issues and is a challenge with lipedema fat and fluid retention.  Yet, we keep on keeping on and trying our best!  I would try protein shakes again and see if that causes any pain...if not, this is a great helo with fullness and health.   This is a great supportive board.  Good luck and keep posting!

Thanks Jennifer! The iron infusions definitely helped, and I'm hoping the thyroid meds help too.

Good luck with your medical stuff. Great to hear from someone who can appreciate the extenuating cir****tances!

Thyroxine - should fix your thyroid problems.  You need to get this on script from your PCP.  Hopefully you'll then be able to start losing.  All the best.
