Menus and Miles Tuesday July 9th - for Roz
Gina, your menu looks good. We have lots of fresh blueberries right now and they are probably the best we have ever had. I need to pick them again our bushes have never made this many before.
I found some lean hot dogs that I really like - but since you need the fat in your diet I guess a regular hot dog is good for you.
Hope your work is going better.
Linda
What I wouldn't give for our own blueberry bushes. Yum! I've been looking at a patio size variety. Wonder if I could call them foundation shrubbery?

Yes I think they would work great as foundation plantings ( though they're not really evergreen here but sprout baby leaves very early in the spring ) Blueberry bushes are naturally slow growing by the way so you might not want a dwarf variety .
And Im sure you could easily keep them pruned to size too as a foundation planting . Blueberries have amazing red leaves in the fall , a very pretty habit and its funny .. the birds aren't bothering my berries this year at all thank God , nor did they really affect the harvest at our place in New Hampshire ever either .
I planted six bushes ( two each of three varieties for better cross pollination ) (from White Flower farm whose strong genetic material I will ALWAYS recommend as a worthwhile investment whatever the type of plant ) last year in our perennial border and am harvesting handfuls of great large and sweet homegrown berries now.
Thank you so much!! I'll Google White Flower and see if they ship. Berries in a year?!?!?

Not a lot of berries this year but I did harvest handfuls both last year and now ... The blueberry bushes were very decorative both in flower , berry and in the red leaf stage ...I'm VERY pleased with them .
Despite drought like conditions haphazard supplemental watering and less than ideal mulching they've done VERY well. Considering our land is waterfront which modifies both the highs and lows of the climate ... I would have to say its very similar growing conditions to Virginia .
Someone asked about protein coffee on the DS board yesterday and I posted my approach below. I add an extra Truvia packet to Syntrax Nectar vanilla because it isn't sweet enough for me. Maybe just leave the extra out and this would work for you.
Protein Coffee
brew a pot of your favorite coffee - we like chocolate raspberry (you can also brew chai tea and use in place of coffee)
In a 20 oz blender bottle with wire ball, add 2 oz of heavy whipping cream and 2 oz of cool water, or 4 oz of half & half, a packet of Truvia or Splenda, a couple of dashes of cinnamon, and a heaping scoop of Syntrax Nectar vanilla protein powder.
Shake about 5 seconds to blend
Pour the protein slurry into a huge mug and fill to the top with coffee
Sir to blend and enjoy!
If you are watching your fat grams, substitute unsweetened soy or skim milk.
Always add hot liquid to cold protein slurry to keep the protein from clumping.
Always check the ingredients of a protein powder before you buy it to ensure the first ingredient listed is whey protein isolate. Don't trust the splashy label on the front.
