I'm getting the hang of this thing

Well I am one month and three days post op today and I can say that I am FINALLY getting the hang of my new sleeve. I don't over eat USUALLY I generally remember not to drink to fast I rarely eat to fast. I know that I can not handle ground meat well ( it's heavy on my stomach) My family is learning to be supportive and are not eating stuff that I can't have ( for the most part LOL) They always look for a sleeve friendly alterantive when they want something I can't have. And most importantly I have FINALLY broken through my stall!!!! I've lost 4 lbs in 4 days with a grand total of 22 lbs pre op and 20 post op. :D 80-90 more and I'm at goal. :D I can't wait. Even with the two week and two day stall I have lost 20 lbs in 34 days :D that isn't to shabby. Especially for a light weight. ALSO I have encouraged my boyfriend who is around 350 lbs to have surgery :D He is thinking about lap band because he wants the quickest and easiest recovery since he can't really have recovery time. He wants to do it without family and friends knowing. He just wants to get it and get healthy. He is only 30 years old and in bad shape. Both of his ankles are bad from previous injuries but I'm sure weight has a lot to do with both the injuries and the pain now. His brother who is only 7 years older than him just had a mini stroke and is healthier than my bf :( I'm scared and want him to do something so even though I am nervous about him going with the lap band i figure it's better than nothing. I'm calling the hospital tomorrow to find out requirements. He has the next three months off of school so now would be perfect time to get it done if at all possible. ANy way I'm rambling. back to teeny tiny tina... She is treating me good.. she threatens me with vomiting if I don't eat when I need to but other than that we have become friends. I'm averaging around 500-800 calories a day depending on what i choose to eat. I have decided to eat  a lot of fruit one or two days a week to help me go to the bathroom. It's working out nicely. I am taking all of my meds and vitamins. Still not getting enough protein but getting better with my liquids. I am walking twice a day totaling between 3 and 4 miles a day at about 3 mph pace. I've even gotten my daughter to start walking with me once a day and she brought up wanting to do a 5k with me. :D I seem to have become the spokes person in my group of people on how to live healthy. I'm so happy about that. :D I did have one major major screw up in the past ten days. I was extremely stressed, my middle child has caused some major conflict in my life and has been a handful to say the least. ( Had to call cops on her ) and I picked up the smokes again. I have only smoked about 2 cigarettes a day for the past ten days BUT thats more than I wanted. Today I had my last one of the pack so starting tomorrow I'm back off the smokes. I can't be learning to run again while smoking. Ok well I'm off her to go post in vsg forum. I hope everyone is having a wonderful day and I hope your week to come is amazing. stay healthy and be happy :D

First, congrats on breaking your stall.

Second, steer him AWAY from the lapband...it has the LOWEST effectiveness of any. And the highest revision rate. And to be honest, if my options had been the lapband or nothing...I would have stayed FAT. My PCP would not recommend me for surgery if I had wanted the lapband.

Have him read the regrets and revision boards..

I wish I could steer him away... He is dead set on the lap band only. I am so bummed that is the surgery he wants.

My surgeon doesn't do lap bands anymore. Keep up the good work!

glad you are doing well.  Stalls do break even when we think they are going to last forever.  cool

Please have him read about the lap band.  Not you, he needs to read it first hand.

Have you tried benefiber or miralax?  Both work well, taken daily and have no calories.  Fruit is very high carb.

Get your protein and fluids in.  They are so important and you can increase both at the same time with protein drinks.  I love the fruity ones in the summer with crystal light in a 25oz blender bottle.  I have one before lunch and after lunch, protein coffee (20oz) before breakfast and protein shake (16oz) after supper and then even if I don't drink anything else, I have enough fluids unless it is very hot.

Sounds like you are getting the hang of it!!!  Great job.

Good luck to your boyfriend.  If he has 3 months off, he has plenty of recovery time if he can get in and get a date that quick.  I hope he will read about all the surgeries before he makes a choice and makes sure he gets the one that will help him the most and fit in with his lifestyle.

Congratulations.

BTW three months is enough time to recover from the DS which is his best bet at 350lbs.
