on 6/12/13 9:16 am
I haven't lost a pound I started out at 253 and am now 207.8 which has not changed in three weeks
I am low carbing and eating protien every meal first Its fustrating to not be losing anything
I am eating by the clock as I have no desire for food
any ideas of what a days meal should be like would greatly appreciate
Give it time and keep doing what you know to be the right things. Your body may just be resting until it's ready to drop some more pounds. Many of us lose in a stair step pattern. Hang tough!

Welcome to the light weights. Almost everyone has stalls and that is what you are experiencing. You will probably drop a bunch at once when you start losing again.
You are fine. In 8-9 weeks you have lost almost 50 # and that averages 5# a week. Really????
Your body is resting. It has been through a lot. Sometimes it just has to catch up. You could likely still be losing inches. if the scale is making you crazy, hide it.
At 8 weeks, I was on 6-8 meals a day, 1/4-1/2c protein first, then if there was any room, a cooked soft veggie. did you not get a food plan from your surgeon? Our food phases were very planned for the 1st 6 months.

It will happen. And Price is right, you're already losing at a great pace. What's your goal weight? You're probably close to half way there.
If your surgeon didn't give you a meal plan, they are easy to find on the web. Let me know if you need help.
RNY 8/27/09 SW: 250 LW: 170 CW: 175 On the right path again!!!
35 pounds of regain!!! 30 lost!!! Just a little more to go.
This is a sample of the plan my doctor gave me. It's odd that your doctor wouldn't have given you anything?
Day 1 thru 5 ( clear liquids Only )
- Unsweetened apple, grape or cranberry juice
- Propel water
- Clear broth ( chicken, beef or vegetable )
- Sugar free Jello-O
- Water
- Tea
- Protein Water by Kellogg’s
- Sugar free water popsicles
- Clear protein drinks only ( example Isopure, Unjury made of Whey Isolate)
- No coffee, caffeine or carbonated drinks
Day 6-10 ( thin liquids )
- All of the above and:
- Natural Vegetable Juices ( example carrot juice, low sodium V-8 juice ) please dilute it in water .
- Protein drinks mixed with water ( example Matrix )
- Whey Nectar Protein Mix
- Avoid pineapple, orange or grapefruit juices since they will produce a lot of acid. Grape, apple and cranberry juice are the most popular ones.
- Vegetable juices are also very popular. Nevertheless some patients report that tomato juice gives them acid problems.
- Add water to juice since some to them have too much sugar in them and will make you nauseous.
Liquid Tips:
- Warm liquids or room temperature liquids are always easier to have then cold ones.
- Sips of apple juice usually bring energy up.
- Your stomach is very sensitive to the density of food and liquids at this point. Diluting your protein shakes and juices in more water helps your stomach.
- Drink slowly. Do not gulp.
- Some patients report that CLEAR WATER is harder to have. Turning water acidic with lemon or lime juice or adding various stuff like crystal light tames the problem.
- You can always add slices of fruit to water or veggies like cucumber to your clear water.
GENERAL RULE
If a NEW FOOD STAGE makes you vomit or makes you feel extreme nausea, please go back to the previous one a few more days. Some stomachs need more time that others,
Day 11 thru 20 ( full liquids )
- Cream soups
- Light Yogurt
- Jello-O
- Boiled pureed fruit ( example apple, pear) applesauce
- Watermelon, papaya or melon in small pieces
- Low fat milk 1 or 2% ( or lactose free milk )
- Water, Propel, tea
- Soy beverages
- Sugar free pudding
- Protein shakes and protein powders mixed with milk
o Yogurt: buy the ones that do not have pieces of fruit in them.
o All cream soups are OK. Just avoid the blending meat in them since they will be too dense for your new stomach.
o meat, tuna, chicken, even if they are blended in soups are too much for your stomach at this point. You need to wait until you are on the solid food stage.
o The following cream soups are very popular : broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, brussels sprouts, beans, peas. Nevertheless some patients have reported they cause excess gas, everyone is different. So I guess it will have to be what works best for you.
o smoothies are Ok as long as they do not contain much sugar in them.
Day 21 thru 30 ( soft food )
Soft food should be the consistency of a thick liquid
( no chunks or solid material ) and it should be chewed very well before swallowing until it is a liquid consistency
- Light Tofu
- Low fat cottage cheese
- Unsweetened cereal ( less then 5 gr sugar per serving )
- Oatmeal
- Cream of wheat
- Grits
- Whole wheat pasta, brown rice
- Low fat Yogurt
- Yogurt mixed with fruit very well blended
- Cream soups ( denser cream soups like cream of potato )
- Eggs, egg whites, egg substitute
- Boiled pureed fruit ( example pear, apple )
- Watermelon, papaya or melon in small pieces
- Boiled pureed vegetables
- Avocado
- Beans ( well cooked and dried)
- Vegetarian or fat free refried beans
- Low calorie refried beans
- Lentils
- Mashed or baked potatoes ( no skin )
- Sweet potato/yam ( no skin )
- Creamy peanut butter
* Eggs:
Chew them very well before swallowing.
Don't mix meat in them . Use a cooking spray to cook them. Most cooking sprays have fewer calories per serving than an application of vegetable oil, because they are applied in a much thinner layer.
*Cereal:
Any cereal that does not have too much sugar in it and contains fiber is Ok. Here are some examples:
Fiber One Bran Cereal: 14 grams fiber, 0% calories from sugar.
Shredded Wheat: 6 grams fiber, 0% calories from sugar .
*Mashed potatoes
Please make them runny, not too thick
*Avoid: raw vegetables, canned fruits in heavy syrup, dried fruit, skins and membranes of fruits, donuts, muffins, cakes, brownies, popcorn, granola, chips, pasta in rich sauce, top ramen, bacon, butter, red meats, fried meats, bologna, salami, etc
Day 31st and beyond ( solid food )
Always Introduce new foods one at a time in order to rule out an intolerance.
If a food is not tolerated, reintroduce it in 1 or 2 weeks
- Fish ( tuna, salmon, halibut )
- Chicken (skinless/boneless ) dark meat works better than dry breast meat
- Lean beef ( loin and round cuts) red meat is fibrous and hard to digest
- Turkey ( skinless white meat )
- Lean pork( lion cuts ) all visible fat trimmed
- Vegetables
- Fruit ( all fruit including banana)
- Lean ham
- Low fat cheeses ( less then 3 gr fat per ounce )
- Low fat ricotta cheese
Important TIPS when having solids
- Cut very small pieces ( the size of a dime ) and chew them very very well before swallowing.
- Have 5 or 6 very small meals instead of 3 large ones.
- Do not eat and drink at the same time. The small capacity of your stomach will not permit both things at the same time. It can cause you chest pain or stomachache.
- When eating a meal start with protein first since you wont have much room for anything else. This will help you stay away from carbs.
- Crackers (like Saltines), are high in carbs, (mostly complex carbs in the form of starch) Because of their high carb-content, most types of cracker, raise blood sugar levels.
