Iron & whey protein?
Whey is dairy. I've asked myself that question also - even though it's dairy, does whey affect the iron? One of the vets will come on and tell us for sure.
It also depends on the kind of iron you take. I take Heme iron - Proferrin. And it states on their web site that food is not an issue with that type of iron. But I still follow the food rules for iron. No diary, no eggs, no caffeine, no sunlight (kidding) - there are a lot of rules on iron. It's a pain because I seem to be sucking down one of these at any given hour of the day.
I take Proferrin too, and usually do not get all three doses in because I cannot seem to space it out right from everything. If food was not an issue, I would take it with each shake and would be much more consistent! Major Mom or Vitalady should know.

The issue isn't dairy. It's calcium. If your shake has more than 300 mg of calcium, the iron won't be properly absorbed. Unless it's heme. You can take up to 600 mg of calcium (i.e., a full dose) with heme iron.

Afraid not. Yep, it's the calcium that will block its absorption. Iron is a weakling for sure. It wants an acidic environment to play around in. Proferrin (heme) says you can take it with other things because it doesn't have to have an acidic environment but Vitalady and I both kind of shy away from taking it with calcium. Old habits die hard.

I've found that I do best when I take it in the middle of the night with a C when I get up to pee.
