I am BACK and on FIRE

Hi everyone,

Some of you will remember me some of you will not. I had my GB almost 4 years ago and was very active on this board at the time.  I was my surgeon's BEFORE & AFTER success story, was helpful in leading groups etc....AND THEN I MOVED AWAY.

Since that time so much has happened. I had a very hard time adjusting to moving away from my hometown, I was shunned (yes shunned) by the church I was involved in, I lost a whole group of friends. The change in lifestyle (I lived in a beach town and walked everyday) to 95 degrees and a different lifestyle stopped my way of living and incorporating exercise. I could not find a support group that would let me in (I didn't try that hard). My father in law died. I sank into a pretty deep depression (which I am finally on the other side of). I drank quite a bit of wine, and honestly, just didn't care that much.

I have come on a few times to try to get back on track. I wasn't ready yet.

NOW I am. I can't promise I will be here everyday, but I need the accountability.  I have regained 30 lbs of the 102 I lost.  I would like to lose 15-20 of those.  I am on antidepressants, have stopped the wine, joined the gym (and am actually going 6 days per week), got back on the vitamins and protein and started watching my carbs. I scheduled my 4 year follow up with my surgeon (I am going to drive the 2 hours). I didn't go to my 3 year.  I don't want to go see him because I feel like it is the walk of shame, but I know it is part of what I need to do. I also found a support group I can join near me and will go in June.

I guess I just needed to put it all out there as a cautionary tale and also just for myself to be honest about where I am at.  I am tracking on my fitness pal and will figure out how to do these boards on my phone (I am rarely at home now).

Anyone else trying to relose some regain? Maintenance IS HARD!!!!!

maintenance IS HARD and it is FOREVER.  I often think when folks are so eager to get to goal, what is the hurry, you just keep on keeping on.

Good for you for getting back on the wagon.  And thanks for letting everyone know how easy it is to fall off.  Glad to have you back.

Hi Pam,

I too came back to the board after going MIA. And I am also 4 years out. I regained 35 pounds while I was gone, largely to alcohol and my divorce. But, in the last year I've lost 20 of those regained pounds. Even though I came back, I know that I should have come back sooner. Now I am focused on the last 15 pounds. I'm committed. I go to the gym, I eat right, I quit drinking. The only thing slowing my progress is my meds for being bipolar. I disclose the bipolar because you should remember any antidepressants you are on are a barrier to your loss. A necessary barrier for me.

So lean on me and I'll lean on you. Let me know what's working for your "re-loss" and I'll tell you mine.

Welcome back

Lauren

Welcome back Pam. Sounds like you are ready to take back control!!  Sorry you had to go through that with your church, your friends and your father in law passing away.

This is the place to be.  I find if I don't stay on I tend to not pay close attention to what I am eating.

Good luck and glad you came back here.

Welcome back Pam!  I too am fighting some regain... and trying to get it to stop before it gets to be even more...

It sounds like you have been through a lot... but you're right - we have to be READY to commit to getting back on track.

Looking forward to seeing you more here!

Thank you everyone for your kind words! I really appreciate the support as there is a certain level of shame I feel for letting it to this far.

@Lauren thank you! Yes let's support one another in this. It really helped to hear that I am not alone in this and that others have struggled too.

I am going out of town this weekend, doing a walk to raise money for CureSearch (pediatric cancer research). May not be around a computer too much.
