The Head Games We Play

First off...I know I'm preaching to the choir!!!

An interesting thing has happened today. I've been thinking about changing my goal.

I think it's because of my giant leap into the 180s this week, and also because of the goals you all hold. My goal coming back to OH was 170. It seemed just enough out of reach to keep things interested. I also chose it because it was my lowest post surgery weight.

Now I'm fantasizing about what pleasure would come from reaching 150. I don't know what I would look like. The last time i was 150 lbs, I was 15 years old. Hmmmm....150 lbs and no pimples enlightened

I wish there was software available to common folk that would enable us to see what we'd look like at a certain weight. I'd love to see so that I could make a decision about whether all the work would be worth anything.

But there is a risk!!! Success for me personally lies in being able to actually get to the finish line. If I make 150 my goal, I'll be crushed if I don't get anywhere near it. Or maybe i should say I've got nothing to lose (intentional pun).

So I'm nowhere. Well not nowhere, I still have my 170 goal to make. Yeah....I've still got to make it to 170 first!!! Okay it's clear, reevaluate goals when you hit the first one.

Thanks for participating in my rant

I give up on setting weight goals.  When I try to get back to 120, I stand still at 124.  Then when I think I will just be happy at 124, I go down to 122.  I have been gone so no weigh in this morning but I am interested to see what it will be tomorrow.  At this point, my goal is to eat clean, exercise and stay healthy.

Price,

I think you're the one who has it right. Just choose healthy.

In my twisted head though, I need goals to evaluate my self worth...205 last year this time = worthless human being, 186.5 today = making it back, 170 goal = yay!!!, 150 goal = supermodel.

Sad but true. So rather than try to change my entire thought process, I'm thinking I'll be successful if I keep weight goals in mind. Perhaps to get closer to your healthy approach, I'll make them smaller goals. And better yet, include some other healthy milestone in there too.

I have changed my goal weight a few times already.  First I was shooting for my drs goal of 162, then I decided to try 150 due to a discussion I had with my moms cardiac surgeon after her bypass  He told us (all her children) that he rarely sees patients in their 80's that are over 150#'s.  He implied that women heavier that 150 don't usually live to that old. (which is a BS statement as he said nothing about how tall.  But I am short)

Then most recently I changed it to 146 to hit a "normal" BMI of 24.9.  I wish now I had left it at 150 because then I would have finally hit a goal before I changed it LOL   I have been sooooo close the last few weeks  150.2  then 150.8 and today 150.6   Last time I was under 150 I was in my early 20's at college and pre babies.

Yea, hit the 170 first so it says GOAL then see where you want to be from there. :)

I like to have a goal because it keeps me focused.  I think as far out as we are, they should be smaller steps to a larger goal.  You can always adjust it when you get closer to your 170 goal.

My goal right now is to get back to 126 - 127.  I know what I need to do, but it is a lot harder now!!  My other goal is to not regain anymore.

Good luck.

Linda,

No regain is a great goal. I wish I had been more careful. It just seemed to slide back on. One of the first things I did was to give up alcohol. I was drinking a glass of wine, sometimes two, every night with dinner. It was tough but I gave it up to save on calories.

I had set 5 lb increments.  Especially once I hit my initial goal (150).  I didn't know how far I could get, and when I would hit 145, then 140 was my goal.. .135, 130... with the final goal of 125.

Make them achieveable, maintainable and doable... then keep working the program to see where you end up.

I honestly hadn't thought about it like that Jodi. That might just be the method I stick to. Thanks :)
